Setup and Initial Operation
Winding the Watch
Your Luminox Atacama Field Automatic watch is powered by an automatic mechanical movement. It winds itself with the motion of your wrist. If the watch has stopped or has not been worn for an extended period, it may require manual winding to initiate operation.
- To manually wind, unscrew the crown (if applicable) and pull it out to the first position.
- Turn the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times. This will provide sufficient power reserve to start the watch.
- Push the crown back in and screw it down securely to ensure water resistance.
Setting Time and Date
To set the time and date on your watch:
- Unscrew the crown (if applicable) and pull it out to the second position (for date setting) or third position (for time setting). Refer to the specific movement instructions if provided with your watch for exact crown positions.
- Setting the Date and Day: In the second crown position, turn the crown to adjust the date and day. Avoid setting the date between 9:00 PM and 3:00 AM, as this can damage the movement. If the current time falls within this window, adjust the time outside this range first, then set the date, and finally reset the time.
- Setting the Time: In the third crown position, turn the crown to set the hour and minute hands. Ensure the AM/PM is correctly set by observing the date change.
- Once set, push the crown back in and screw it down tightly to maintain water resistance.
Operating the Watch
Automatic Movement
The Luminox Atacama Field Automatic watch features a self-winding mechanical movement. It gains power from the natural motion of your arm. When fully wound, the watch has a power reserve that allows it to continue running for a period even when not worn. Regular wear ensures continuous operation.
Luminox Light Technology (LLT)
A key feature of Luminox watches is the self-powered illumination system, known as Luminox Light Technology (LLT). This technology uses tiny micro gas light sources embedded in the dial ring and hands, providing constant visibility without needing external light exposure or battery power for illumination. The LLT glows continuously for up to 25 years, ensuring readability in all light conditions, including complete darkness.

Maintenance and Care
Cleaning Your Watch
To maintain the appearance of your watch, clean it regularly with a soft, damp cloth. For stainless steel bracelets, a soft brush can be used to remove dirt from between the links. Always ensure the crown is securely screwed down before cleaning with water.
Water Resistance
The Luminox Atacama Field Automatic watch is water resistant to 200 meters (660 feet / 20 ATM). This makes it suitable for swimming, snorkeling, and recreational diving. However, it is crucial to ensure the crown is fully screwed down before any contact with water. Do not operate the crown or pushers (if present) while the watch is submerged or wet, as this can compromise water resistance.
Regular checks of the water resistance by an authorized service center are recommended, especially after any impact or battery replacement (though this model is automatic, seals can degrade over time).
Storage
When not wearing your watch for extended periods, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. For automatic watches, a watch winder can be used to keep the movement running and maintain lubrication, reducing the need for frequent time setting.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Watch has stopped or is running intermittently. | Insufficient power reserve. | Manually wind the watch by turning the crown clockwise 20-30 times. Wear the watch regularly to keep it wound. |
| Watch is running fast or slow. | Magnetic interference, impact, or need for regulation. | Keep the watch away from strong magnetic fields (e.g., speakers, magnets). If the issue persists, consult an authorized service center for regulation. |
| Date/Day does not change at midnight. | Time is set to AM instead of PM, or vice versa. | Advance the time by 12 hours. Ensure the date changes around midnight. |
| Condensation under the crystal. | Water ingress due to open crown or compromised seals. | Immediately take the watch to an authorized service center. Do not attempt to dry it yourself. |
