Setup Guide

1. Software Installation: Before connecting your Volt 176, visit the Universal Audio website to download and install the necessary drivers and accompanying software. This includes the award-winning LUNA Digital Audio Workstation and a suite of UAD plug-ins.
2. Connect to Power: Connect the included 5VDC power supply to the Volt 176.
3. Connect to Computer/Device: Use the provided USB-C cable to connect the Volt 176 to your Mac, PC, iPad, or iPhone. For iPads/iPhones without USB-C, an Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter is required.
4. Power On: Flip the POWER switch on the rear panel to the 'ON' position. The unit will power up, and indicator lights will illuminate.
5. Connect Microphones/Instruments:
   • For microphones, connect via the XLR input. If your microphone requires phantom power, press the 48V button on the front panel. Note that phantom power activates on all inputs simultaneously.
   • For instruments (e.g., guitar), connect via the 1/4-inch input. Press the 'INST' button if connecting a high-impedance instrument.
6. Connect Monitoring: Connect your headphones to the HEADPHONES jack on the front panel. Adjust the VOLUME knob for comfortable listening. For studio monitors, connect them to the MONITOR 1/L and 2/R outputs on the rear panel.

Operating Instructions

Front Panel Controls:

• 48V Button: Activates +48V phantom power for condenser microphones. The indicator light will glow red when active. Phantom power ramps up gradually to prevent damage.
• INST Button: Engages high-impedance input for instruments like electric guitars or basses.
• GAIN Knob: Adjusts the input level for the connected microphone or instrument. Monitor the input level meters to avoid clipping.
• VINTAGE Button: Activates the Vintage Mic Preamp mode, emulating the rich sound of classic UA 610 tube preamps. The indicator light glows orange when active.
• 76 COMPRESSOR Button: Engages the analog compressor, based on the renowned UA 1176. Pressing this button cycles through different compression presets:

  • GTR (Guitar): Optimized for guitars.
  • FAST: A fast-acting compression suitable for drums or percussive sounds.

• MONITOR Knob: Controls the overall output volume to your studio monitors.
• DIRECT Button: Enables direct monitoring, allowing you to hear your input signal directly through the headphones and monitor outputs with zero latency. The indicator light glows blue when active.
• VOLUME Knob (Headphones): Adjusts the volume for the connected headphones.

Troubleshooting

• Low Input Signal with Dynamic Microphones: Some dynamic microphones, like the Shure SM7B, may require higher gain settings. While the Volt 176 preamps are strong, an inline preamp (e.g., Triton Audio FetHead) can provide additional clean gain if you prefer to keep the interface's gain knob at a lower setting.
• Phantom Power Activation: The 48V phantom power activates on all inputs simultaneously. If you are using a microphone that does not require phantom power alongside one that does, ensure the non-phantom powered microphone is compatible with +48V or use an inline phantom power blocker if necessary.
• Volume Knob Scratching Noise: In some environments, users have reported a scratching noise on the audio when adjusting the volume knob. This may resolve after several turns of the knob. If the issue persists, contact Universal Audio support.
• No Sound/Connectivity Issues:
