1. Important Safeguards
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:
- Read all instructions.
- Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles and knobs.
- To protect against electric shock, do not place cord, plug, or coffee maker in water or other liquids.
- Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
- Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
- Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner.
- The use of accessory attachments not recommended by Cuisinart may cause injuries.
- Do not use outdoors.
- Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
- Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
- Always fill water reservoir first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to "off," then remove plug from wall outlet.
- Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
- Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the brewing cycle.
Electrical Safety
This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not modify the plug in any way.

5. Care and Cleaning
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your coffee maker.
Daily Cleaning
- Unplug: Always unplug the coffee maker from the electrical outlet before cleaning.
- Drip Tray: Remove the drip tray and grate. Wash in warm, soapy water, rinse, and dry.
- HomeBarista® Reusable Filter Cup: After each use, remove the reusable filter cup and discard used grounds. Wash the cup and its holder in warm, soapy water, rinse, and dry.
- Water Reservoir: Empty any remaining water from the reservoir. Wipe the inside with a damp cloth.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior surfaces of the coffee maker with a clean, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
Descaling
Mineral deposits (calcium) can build up in your coffee maker over time, affecting its performance. Descale your unit every 3-6 months, or more frequently if you have hard water.
- Prepare Solution: Fill the water reservoir with a mixture of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water.
- Run Cycles: Place an empty mug on the drip tray. Run several 12 oz. brew cycles until the water reservoir is empty. Do not insert any coffee pods or grounds during this process.
- Rinse Cycles: After the vinegar solution has run through, fill the reservoir with fresh, clean water. Run several more 12 oz. brew cycles with only water to rinse out any remaining vinegar.
- Repeat if Necessary: If the coffee maker still shows signs of mineral buildup (e.g., slow brewing, unusual noise), repeat the descaling process.
