5. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance. It is highly recommended to have the unit installed by a qualified professional.

5.1. Pre-Installation Checks

• Disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal before starting installation.
• Ensure the mounting location is suitable for a single-DIN unit (Installation Size: 7-3/16" x 2-1/16" x 6-1/8" / 182 x 53 x 155.5mm).

5.2. Wiring Connections

Connect the included wiring harness to your vehicle's wiring according to the color codes. Key connections include:

• Power: Constant 12V (Yellow), Accessory 12V (Red), Ground (Black).
• Speakers: Connect to your vehicle's speaker wires (e.g., White/White-Black for Front Left, Gray/Gray-Black for Front Right, Green/Green-Black for Rear Left, Purple/Purple-Black for Rear Right).
• Antenna: Connect your vehicle's antenna cable.
• External Microphone: Plug the external microphone into the dedicated input on the rear of the unit for hands-free calling.

5.3. Mounting the Unit

Slide the mounting sleeve into the dashboard opening. Secure it by bending the tabs. Insert the stereo unit into the sleeve until it locks into place. Attach the trim ring.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Basic Operations

• Power On/Off: Press the SRC button to turn the unit on. Press and hold to turn off.
• Volume Control: Rotate the large central knob to adjust the volume.
• Source Selection: Press the SRC button repeatedly to cycle through available sources (Tuner, CD, USB, AUX, Bluetooth).

6.2. Bluetooth Connectivity

The KDC-BT282U features built-in Bluetooth for hands-free calling and audio streaming. It supports dual phone connection.

• Pairing: Enable Bluetooth on your smartphone. On the stereo, select the Bluetooth source. Search for "KDC-BT282U" on your phone and select it to pair.
• Hands-Free Calling: Use the dedicated phone buttons on the faceplate to answer, end, or reject calls. Your voice will be picked up by the external microphone.
• Audio Streaming: Play music from your smartphone via Bluetooth. Control playback (play/pause, skip) from the stereo or your phone.
