Setup

1. Unpacking

Carefully remove the iron and all accessories from the packaging. Retain the packaging for future storage or transport. Check for any visible damage.

2. Filling the Water Tank

Ensure the iron is unplugged from the power outlet before filling. Open the water tank inlet cover, typically located near the handle. Fill the water tank with clean tap water up to the 'MAX' indication line. Do not overfill. Close the inlet cover securely to prevent leaks during use.

Operating Instructions

1. Initial Use

When using the iron for the first time, you may notice a slight odor or some particles coming from the soleplate. This is normal and will disappear after a few uses. It is recommended to iron an old piece of fabric first to clean the soleplate.

2. Temperature Setting

Plug the iron into a suitable power outlet (110 Volts). Turn the temperature dial to the desired setting based on the fabric type. The indicator light will illuminate, indicating the iron is heating up. It will turn off when the set temperature is reached.

3. Steam Function

For steam ironing, ensure the water tank is filled and the temperature is set to a steam-appropriate level (usually indicated on the dial). Press the steam button for a continuous steam flow or the steam boost button for an extra burst of steam to tackle stubborn creases.

4. Dry Ironing

To perform dry ironing, ensure the water tank is empty or the steam setting is turned off. Select the appropriate temperature for your fabric. This mode is ideal for delicate fabrics or when steam is not required.

5. Automatic Shut-off

For safety, the iron will automatically shut off if left stationary. If left horizontally on the ironing board, it will shut off after 30 seconds. If left vertically on its heel rest, it will shut off after 8 minutes. The indicator light will flash to signal the shut-off. To restart, simply move the iron.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning the Soleplate

Allow the iron to cool completely. Wipe the soleplate with a damp cloth and a non-abrasive cleaner if necessary. Do not use harsh scouring pads or abrasive cleaners as they can damage the soleplate.

2. Descaling

Regular descaling is crucial to maintain optimal steam performance and prolong the life of your iron. Refer to the specific descaling instructions in the full manual (if provided with the product) or on the Philips Walita website. Generally, this involves using a self-clean function or a descaling solution.

3. Storage

After use, unplug the iron and allow it to cool down completely. Empty any remaining water from the tank. Store the iron in an upright position on its heel rest in a dry, safe place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions

  • Iron not heating:
    • Check if the iron is properly plugged into a working power outlet.
    • Ensure the temperature dial is set to a heat setting and not 'OFF'.
    • If the auto-shutoff has activated, move the iron to reactivate it.
  • No steam or insufficient steam:
    • Check if the water tank is filled.
    • Ensure the temperature setting is high enough for steam production.
    • The iron may need descaling if mineral buildup is blocking steam vents.
  • Water leaking from soleplate:
    • The temperature may be too low for steam production, causing water to drip. Increase the temperature.
    • Do not overfill the water tank.
    • Ensure the water tank cap is securely closed.
  • White flakes coming from soleplate:
    • This indicates mineral buildup. Perform a descaling procedure.
