1. Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the Tangkula 28.5-Inch Electric Fireplace Insert. This manual provides important information for the safe operation, installation, and maintenance of your electric fireplace. Please read it thoroughly before use and retain it for future reference.

2. Important Safety Instructions

When using electrical appliances, basic precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, including the following:

  • Read all instructions before using this heater.
  • This heater is hot when in use. To avoid burns, do not let bare skin touch hot surfaces.
  • Extreme caution is necessary when any heater is used by or near children or invalids and whenever the heater is left operating and unattended.
  • Do not operate any heater with a damaged cord or plug or after the heater malfunctions, has been dropped or damaged in any manner.
  • Do not use outdoors.
  • Do not run cord under carpeting. Do not cover cord with throw rugs, runners, or similar coverings. Arrange cord away from traffic area and where it will not be tripped over.
  • To disconnect heater, turn controls to off, then remove plug from outlet.
  • Do not insert or allow foreign objects to enter any ventilation or exhaust opening as this may cause an electric shock or fire, or damage the heater.
  • To prevent a possible fire, do not block air intakes or exhaust in any manner. Do not use on soft surfaces, like a bed, where openings may become blocked.
  • A heater has hot and arcing or sparking parts inside. Do not use it in areas where gasoline, paint, or flammable vapors or liquids are used or stored.
  • Use this heater only as described in this manual. Any other use not recommended by the manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
  • Always plug heaters directly into a wall outlet/receptacle. Never use with an extension cord or relocatable power tap (outlet/power strip).
  • This heater includes an overheat protection system. If the heater overheats, it will automatically shut off.

3. Setup and Installation

The Tangkula electric fireplace insert offers versatile installation options: recessed, freestanding, or placed within a cabinet (TV stand or fireplace cabinet).

3.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure all parts listed in the package contents are present and undamaged. Retain packaging for future transport or if return is necessary.

3.2 Dimensions and Clearance

Before installation, verify the dimensions of your chosen installation area. The overall dimensions of the fireplace are 28.5" (Width) x 6" (Depth) x 21" (Height).

3.3 Installation Options

Choose the installation method that best suits your space:

  • Recessed Installation: Integrate the fireplace directly into a wall or custom-built structure. Ensure adequate ventilation and clearance as per safety guidelines.
  • Cabinet Installation: Place the fireplace into a TV stand or a dedicated fireplace cabinet. Ensure the cabinet opening matches the fireplace dimensions.
  • Freestanding: The unit can also be placed directly on a flat, stable surface.

Ensure the power cord is not pinched or routed in a way that could cause damage. Plug the unit directly into a 120V/60Hz grounded outlet.

4. Operating Instructions

The fireplace can be operated using either the control panel located on the unit or the included remote control.

4.1 Control Panel and Remote Control Overview

Familiarize yourself with the buttons and their functions:

  • Power (On/Off): Turns the unit on or off.
  • Flame Effect: Activates or deactivates the flame and fuel bed lights.
  • Heat (750W/1500W): Toggles between low (750W) and high (1500W) heat settings.
  • Temperature (62°F-82°F): Adjusts the desired room temperature. The thermostat will maintain this setting.
  • Timer (1-8 Hours): Sets an automatic shut-off timer for 1 to 8 hours.
  • Flame Color: Cycles through 3 different flame colors.
  • Brightness: Adjusts the flame brightness through 5 levels.

4.2 Flame Effects

The fireplace features realistic flame effects with three color options and five brightness levels. The flame effect can be operated independently of the heating function.

4.3 Heating Function

Select between 750W (low) and 1500W (high) heat settings. The integrated thermostat allows you to set a desired temperature between 62°F and 82°F. The heater will automatically turn off once the ambient temperature exceeds the set temperature and reactivate when it drops below.

Overheat Protection: For safety, the unit is equipped with an automatic overheat protection system. If the internal temperature becomes too high, the heater will shut off. If this occurs, turn off the unit, unplug it, and allow it to cool for at least 10 minutes before restarting. Check for any obstructions to the air inlets or outlets.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your electric fireplace.

5.1 Cleaning

  • Always disconnect the power before cleaning.
  • Wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Gently clean the glass panel with a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals that may scratch or damage the surface.
  • Ensure air inlets and outlets are free from dust and debris. Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment if necessary.

5.2 Storage

When not in use, store the fireplace in a dry, dust-free location. If possible, use the original packaging for protection.

6. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your electric fireplace, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
