1. Introduction

Welcome to the AKEZ Electric Bike user manual. This manual provides essential information for the safe operation, assembly, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your new AKEZ Electric Mountain Bike. Please read this manual thoroughly before your first ride to ensure optimal performance and safety.

The AKEZ Electric Bike is designed for adults, featuring a powerful 750W motor, a 48V 10AH removable hidden battery, and fat tires suitable for various terrains, including snow. Its robust aluminum frame and front suspension provide a comfortable and stable riding experience.

2. Safety Information

Your safety is paramount. Always adhere to local traffic laws and regulations when operating the electric bike. Failure to follow safety guidelines can result in serious injury or damage to the bike.

  • Wear a Helmet: Always wear a certified bicycle helmet that fits properly.
  • Pre-Ride Check: Before each ride, inspect the brakes, tires (pressure and condition), battery charge, and ensure all quick releases and bolts are tightened.
  • Visibility: Use lights and reflective gear, especially when riding at dawn, dusk, or night. Be visible to motorists.
  • Weather Conditions: Exercise caution when riding in wet, icy, or snowy conditions. Fat tires provide better traction but do not eliminate risks.
  • Battery Safety:
    • Only use the charger provided by AKEZ.
    • Do not expose the battery to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight for prolonged periods.
    • Do not attempt to open or modify the battery pack.
    • Charge the battery in a well-ventilated area, away from flammable materials.
  • Riding Limits: Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of the bike. Avoid riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

4. Setup and Assembly

Your AKEZ Electric Bike comes partially assembled. Follow these steps to complete the assembly:

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Retain packaging for future transport or storage.
  2. Handlebar Installation: Attach the handlebars to the stem, ensuring they are centered and tightened securely.
  3. Pedal Installation: Identify the left (L) and right (R) pedals. The left pedal tightens counter-clockwise, and the right pedal tightens clockwise. Ensure they are fully threaded and tightened.
  4. Front Wheel Installation: Install the front wheel into the fork dropouts. Ensure the disc brake rotor is correctly aligned with the caliper. Secure with the quick-release skewer or axle nuts.
  5. Seat Post and Saddle Adjustment: Insert the seat post into the frame and adjust the saddle height to a comfortable riding position. Secure with the quick-release lever.
  6. Battery Installation: Slide the battery into its designated slot in the frame until it clicks securely into place. Use the key to lock it if applicable.
  7. Final Checks: Double-check all bolts, nuts, and quick releases for tightness. Ensure brakes are functioning correctly and tires are inflated to the recommended pressure.

5. Operating Instructions

Understanding how to operate your AKEZ Electric Bike will enhance your riding experience.

5.1 Powering On/Off

To power on the bike, press and hold the power button on the display unit. To power off, press and hold the same button until the display turns off.

5.2 Riding Modes

Your AKEZ Electric Bike offers three distinct riding modes:

Electric Bike Riding Modes

Figure 5.1: Illustration of the three riding modes: Manpower, Auxiliary, and Electric. This image visually explains each mode's function and how it affects power consumption.

  • Manpower Mode: (Pedal Only) In this mode, the electric motor provides no assistance. The bike operates like a traditional bicycle, relying solely on pedal power. This mode conserves battery life.
  • Auxiliary Mode: (Pedal Assist) The motor provides assistance as you pedal. You can typically adjust the level of assistance (e.g., low, medium, high) via the display unit. This mode is ideal for extending range and reducing effort on longer rides or inclines.
  • Electric Mode: (Throttle Only) The bike is propelled solely by the motor using the throttle, without the need for pedaling. This mode consumes battery power more rapidly.

5.3 Charging the Battery

To charge the battery:

  1. Ensure the bike is powered off.
  2. Locate the charging port on the battery (or remove the battery for external charging).
  3. Connect the charger to the battery, then plug the charger into a standard wall outlet.
  4. The charger's indicator light will typically show red during charging and turn green when fully charged.
  5. Once fully charged, disconnect the charger from the outlet first, then from the battery.

Note: A full charge typically takes 4-6 hours. Avoid overcharging the battery.

5.4 Gear Shifting and Braking

  • Gear Shifting: Use the shifters on the handlebars to change gears. Shift to lower gears for climbing hills and higher gears for flat terrain or downhill riding. Shift smoothly and avoid shifting under heavy load.
  • Braking: The bike is equipped with disc brakes. Use both front and rear brakes simultaneously for effective and controlled stopping. Apply gentle pressure initially and increase as needed. Avoid sudden, hard braking, especially at high speeds or on slippery surfaces.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your AKEZ Electric Bike.

  • Battery Care:
    • Charge the battery regularly, even if not in use, to maintain its health.
    • Store the battery in a cool, dry place, ideally between 50-70% charge if storing for extended periods.
    • Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently.
  • Tire Pressure: Check tire pressure before each ride. Maintain the recommended PSI (pounds per square inch) indicated on the tire sidewall for optimal performance and safety.
  • Brake Inspection: Regularly check brake pads for wear and brake levers for proper tension. Adjust or replace as necessary.
  • Chain Lubrication: Keep the chain clean and lubricated to ensure smooth gear changes and prevent rust.
  • Cleaning: Clean the bike regularly with a damp cloth. Avoid using high-pressure washers directly on electrical components.
  • Bolt and Fastener Check: Periodically check all bolts, nuts, and fasteners for tightness, especially on critical components like handlebars, wheels, and seat post.

7. Troubleshooting

Here are some common issues and their potential solutions:
