  • Crown: Used for winding, setting time, and date.
  • Unidirectional Bezel: Rotates in one direction, typically used for timing dives or elapsed time.
  • Sapphire Lens: Scratch-resistant crystal protecting the dial.
  • Luminous Markers and Hands: Provide visibility in low-light conditions.
  • Strap/Bracelet: Available in stainless steel or genuine leather.

3. Setup and Initial Winding

Your Spinnaker Croft watch is powered by an automatic mechanical movement (Seiko NH35), which means it is wound by the motion of your wrist. It does not require batteries. For initial setup or after a period of inactivity, manual winding is recommended.

  1. Unscrew the Crown: Gently unscrew the crown counter-clockwise until it pops out to the first position. This is the winding position.
  2. Manual Winding: Turn the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times. This will provide enough power reserve to start the watch.
  3. Setting the Date: Pull the crown out to the second position. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise (depending on the movement) to set the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the movement.
  4. Setting the Time: Pull the crown out to the third position. Turn the crown to set the correct time. Ensure the AM/PM is correctly set by advancing the hands past 12 o'clock to see if the date changes.
  5. Secure the Crown: Once time and date are set, push the crown back in and screw it down clockwise firmly against the case. This ensures water resistance.

4. Operating Your Watch

4.1 Automatic Winding

Once manually wound, the watch will continue to operate as long as it is worn regularly. The automatic movement harnesses the kinetic energy from your arm's motion to wind the mainspring. If the watch is not worn for an extended period (typically 40+ hours), it will stop and require manual winding to restart.

4.2 Using the Unidirectional Bezel

The Spinnaker Croft features a unidirectional rotating bezel. This bezel is designed to rotate only counter-clockwise to prevent accidental changes that could overestimate elapsed time during a dive. To use it:

  1. Align the bezel's zero marker with the minute hand at the start of your activity (e.g., a dive or cooking).
  2. As time passes, the minute hand will indicate the elapsed time against the bezel's scale.

4.3 Luminous Display

The hands and hour markers of your Spinnaker Croft watch are coated with luminous material to ensure readability in low-light conditions. Exposure to light will charge the luminescence, allowing it to glow in the dark.

5. Maintenance and Care

  • Cleaning: Wipe your watch regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For stainless steel parts, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by drying. Avoid harsh chemicals.
  • Water Resistance: Your watch is water resistant up to 150 meters (500 feet). Ensure the crown is always screwed down tightly before any contact with water. Rinse the watch with fresh water after exposure to saltwater.
  • Temperature Extremes: Avoid exposing your watch to extreme temperature changes or direct sunlight for prolonged periods, as this can affect the movement and materials.
  • Magnetic Fields: Keep your watch away from strong magnetic fields (e.g., speakers, refrigerators, certain electronic devices) as they can affect the accuracy of the mechanical movement.
  • Servicing: Mechanical watches benefit from periodic servicing (typically every 3-5 years) by a qualified watchmaker to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

6. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Watch has stopped or is running slow. Insufficient power reserve. Manually wind the watch by turning the crown clockwise 20-30 times. Wear the watch regularly to maintain power reserve.
Date changes at noon instead of midnight. AM/PM setting is incorrect. Advance the time by 12 hours.
Watch is losing or gaining significant time. Exposure to strong magnetic fields or requires regulation. Demagnetize the watch (can be done by a watchmaker). If problem persists, seek professional servicing.
Condensation under the crystal. Water ingress due to open crown or compromised seal. Immediately take the watch to a professional watchmaker for inspection and repair to prevent further damage. Ensure crown is always screwed down.
