3.2 Setting Time and Date

  1. Unscrew the Crown (if applicable): Some models feature a screw-down crown for enhanced water resistance. If your crown is screw-down, gently unscrew it counter-clockwise until it pops out to position 1.
  2. Pull the Crown to Position 2 (Date Setting): Gently pull the crown out one more click to position 2. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to set the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the movement.
  3. Pull the Crown to Position 3 (Time Setting): Pull the crown out to its outermost position (position 3). The second hand will stop. Turn the crown to set the hour and minute hands. To ensure accurate time, set the time a few minutes ahead and then push the crown back to position 1 when a time signal (e.g., from a radio or phone) reaches the desired time.
  4. Push and Screw Down the Crown: Once the time and date are set, push the crown back into position 1. If it's a screw-down crown, gently push it in and screw it clockwise until it is tight against the case to maintain water resistance.

3.3 Winding the Watch

Your Orient Symphony IV watch features an automatic movement with hand-winding capability.

  • Automatic Winding: The watch is automatically wound by the motion of your wrist while wearing it. For optimal performance, wear the watch daily for at least 8-10 hours.
  • Hand Winding: If the watch has stopped or has not been worn for a period, you can hand-wind it. With the crown in position 1 (pushed in), turn the crown clockwise approximately 30-40 times. This will provide sufficient power reserve to start the watch and allow the automatic winding mechanism to take over.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Wearing the Watch

Ensure the watch is worn comfortably on your wrist, not too tight or too loose. The automatic movement relies on your arm's motion to keep it wound.

4.2 Water Resistance

Your watch is water resistant to 50 meters (5 ATM). This rating means it is suitable for everyday use and can withstand splashes, rain, and brief immersion in water, such as showering. It is not suitable for swimming, diving, or prolonged water activities. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in and, if applicable, screwed down, before any contact with water.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

Wipe the watch case and bracelet regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and fingerprints. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, ensuring the crown is fully closed. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

5.2 Avoiding Magnetic Fields

Automatic watches can be affected by strong magnetic fields, which may cause them to run inaccurately. Keep your watch away from strong magnets, such as those found in speakers, refrigerators, and certain electronic devices.

5.3 Regular Servicing

Like any precision mechanical instrument, your watch benefits from periodic servicing. It is recommended to have your watch inspected and serviced by an authorized watchmaker every 3-5 years to ensure its longevity and accuracy.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Watch Not Running: If the watch has stopped, try hand-winding it approximately 30-40 times (crown in position 1, turn clockwise). If it still does not start, ensure the crown is fully pushed in. If the issue persists, it may require professional inspection.
  • Inaccurate Time: Minor variations in accuracy are normal for mechanical watches. If your watch is consistently running significantly fast or slow, it might be magnetized or require regulation by a professional watchmaker.
  • Condensation Inside Crystal: If you notice condensation under the sapphire crystal, this indicates moisture has entered the watch. Immediately take the watch to an authorized service center to prevent further damage to the movement.
