1. Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective use, setup, operation, and maintenance of the GVS RPB Astro 02-800-CE Sandblasting Hood. This product is designed to provide respiratory protection during sandblasting operations. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the equipment.
2. Safety Information
Always prioritize safety when operating sandblasting equipment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury or death.
- Ensure proper air supply and filtration are used with this respirator.
- Inspect all components for damage before each use. Do not use if any part is damaged.
- Verify that the low flow indicator is functioning correctly.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in addition to the hood, such as protective clothing and gloves.
- Do not modify the hood or its components. Use only genuine RPB Safety replacement parts.
- Consult local regulations and safety standards for sandblasting operations.

4. Setup Instructions
- Attach Breathing Tube: Connect one end of the breathing tube to the air inlet on the helmet and the other end to the constant flow valve. Ensure connections are secure.
- Install Low Flow Indicator: Integrate the low flow indicator into the air supply line, typically between the constant flow valve and the main air supply hose. Follow the indicator's specific instructions for proper placement.
- Secure Nylon Cape: Attach the nylon cape to the helmet, ensuring it provides full coverage around the user's neck and shoulders to protect against abrasive materials.
- Connect Air Supply: Connect the constant flow valve to a clean, dry, and regulated compressed air source. Ensure the air supply meets the specifications outlined in Section 7.
- Perform Pre-Use Check: Before donning the hood, turn on the air supply and verify that air flows freely into the helmet and that the low flow indicator shows adequate airflow.
5. Operating Instructions
- Donning the Hood: Place the helmet on your head, ensuring a comfortable and secure fit. Adjust the internal head harness if necessary.
- Adjusting Airflow: The constant flow valve regulates the air supply. Adjust it to a comfortable level that provides sufficient positive pressure inside the hood, preventing contaminants from entering. The streamlined air deviation system distributes air into the breathing zone and across the visor to prevent fogging.
- During Operation: Maintain constant awareness of your surroundings. Regularly check the low flow indicator to ensure continuous adequate airflow. If airflow drops, immediately cease operations and move to a safe area.
- Removing the Hood: Before removing the hood, move away from the contaminated area. Turn off the air supply, then carefully remove the hood.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and effectiveness of your RPB Astro 02-800-CE Sandblasting Hood.
- Cleaning: After each use, clean the helmet and cape with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Visor Inspection: Regularly inspect the visor for scratches or damage that could impair vision. Replace the visor if visibility is compromised.
- Breathing Tube: Check the breathing tube for cracks, punctures, or blockages. Replace if damaged.
- Air Supply Components: Inspect the constant flow valve and low flow indicator for proper function and signs of wear.
- Storage: Store the hood in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Insufficient Airflow | Blocked air filter, kinked breathing tube, low air supply pressure. | Check air filter, straighten tube, verify air compressor output. |
| Visor Fogging | Inadequate airflow across visor, high humidity. | Increase airflow with constant flow valve, ensure proper air distribution. |
| Air Leakage into Hood | Improperly sealed cape, damaged helmet seal. | Re-secure cape, inspect helmet seals for damage and replace if necessary. |
