Setup

Initial Winding and Time Setting

  1. Unscrew the Crown (if applicable): Some models may have a screw-down crown for enhanced water resistance. If so, gently unscrew the crown counter-clockwise until it springs out to position 1.
  2. Manual Winding: In position 1 (normal operating position, or unscrewed position if screw-down), turn the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times. This will provide an initial power reserve to start the automatic movement.
  3. Setting the Time: Pull the crown out to position 2 (the outermost position). Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to set the hour and minute hands to the correct time.
  4. Push and Secure the Crown: Once the time is set, push the crown back into position 0 (normal operating position). If it's a screw-down crown, gently push it in and screw it clockwise until it is securely tightened against the case.

Adjusting the Stainless Steel Strap

The stainless steel strap can be adjusted by adding or removing links. This process typically requires specialized tools and is best performed by a qualified watchmaker or jeweler to avoid damaging the strap or clasp. Ensure the strap fits comfortably on your wrist, allowing for slight movement without being too loose or too tight.

Operating Your Automatic Watch

Automatic Movement

Your Mondaine Original Automatic watch is powered by an automatic mechanical movement. This means the watch is wound by the natural motion of your wrist. As you wear the watch, an oscillating weight inside the movement rotates, winding the mainspring and storing power. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it will stop. Simply re-wind it manually as described in the "Setup" section, or wear it for a few hours to build up the power reserve.

Power Reserve

A fully wound Mondaine Original Automatic watch typically has a power reserve of approximately 38-42 hours. This means it can continue to operate for this duration after being taken off the wrist, provided it was fully wound. If the watch stops, it indicates the power reserve has been depleted.

Water Resistance (30m / 3 ATM)

Your watch has a water resistance rating of 30 meters (3 ATM). This rating indicates that the watch is suitable for everyday use and can withstand splashes, rain, and brief immersion in water, such as washing hands. It is not suitable for showering, bathing, swimming, diving, or any water sports. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in and, if applicable, screwed down, before any contact with water.

Regular Servicing

Like any precision mechanical instrument, your Mondaine automatic watch benefits from periodic servicing. It is recommended to have your watch serviced by an authorized Mondaine service center or a reputable watchmaker every 3-5 years. This service typically includes cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment of the movement, as well as checking and replacing seals to maintain water resistance.
