5. Setup and Installation

5.1 Connecting the Microphone

  1. Locate the microphone port on your compatible YAESU mobile radio.
  2. Align the RJ-45 connector of the MH-48A6J microphone with the radio's microphone port.
  3. Gently push the connector into the port until it clicks securely into place. Do not force the connection.

5.2 Installing the Mic Hangup Clip

The included HLN9073B mic hangup clip allows for convenient storage of your microphone when not in use.

  1. Choose a suitable location in your vehicle or operating area for the clip. Ensure it is within easy reach and does not obstruct controls or visibility.
  2. Using the two provided screws, securely attach the hangup clip to the chosen surface.
  3. Ensure the clip is firmly mounted before hanging the microphone.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Basic Operation

  • Power On/Off: The microphone draws power from the radio. Ensure your radio is powered on.
  • Volume Control: Adjust the audio output volume using your radio's volume knob. The microphone's built-in speaker will output received audio.
  • Push-To-Talk (PTT): Press and hold the PTT switch on the side of the microphone to transmit. Release to receive.
  • UP/DWN Buttons: Use these buttons to change frequencies or memory channels, depending on your radio's current mode.

6.2 DTMF Keypad Functions

The DTMF keypad allows for advanced functions:

  • Direct Frequency Entry: In VFO mode, use the numeric keypad to directly enter frequencies. Refer to your radio's manual for specific steps.
  • Memory Channel Recall: Use the keypad to recall specific memory channels.
  • DTMF Tones for Autopatch: During transmission (while holding PTT), press the desired numeric keys to send DTMF tones for autopatch or other remote control functions.

6.3 Programmable Keys (P1, P2, P3, P4)

The four programmable 'soft' keys (P1, P2, P3, P4) can be customized to access frequently used radio functions or menu items. Refer to your specific YAESU radio's instruction manual for details on how to program these keys.

6.4 LOCK and LAMP Switches

  • LOCK Switch: Slide this switch to the 'LOCK' position to disable the keypad and prevent accidental key presses. This is useful during mobile operation or when the microphone is stored.
  • LAMP Switch: Slide this switch to activate or deactivate the keypad backlighting for improved visibility in low-light conditions.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the microphone surface with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
