4. Setup
4.1 Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment on the underside of the Thomas engine.
- Using a small Phillips-head screwdriver, unscrew the battery compartment cover.
- Insert 2 AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw.

4.2 Attaching the Cargo Car
- Align the plastic hook on the rear of the Thomas engine with the loop on the front of the cargo car.
- Gently push the hook into the loop until it clicks securely into place.
- To detach, simply pull the hook out of the loop.

5. Operation
5.1 Turning the Engine On/Off
To start the Thomas engine, locate the red switch on the top of the engine. Flip the switch to the 'ON' position. The engine will begin to move. To stop the engine, flip the switch back to the 'OFF' position.
5.2 Track and Surface Compatibility
- The Thomas engine is designed to run on most Thomas & Friends track sets.
- It is not compatible with wooden track sets.
- The engine can also operate on various flat surfaces such as hard floors and rugs.
5.3 Connecting Other Engines/Cars
The plastic connectors on the Thomas engine and cargo car allow for easy attachment of other compatible Thomas & Friends engines, vehicles, or additional cargo cars (each sold separately). This feature enables expanded play scenarios and customization of your train.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
Wipe the engine and cargo car with a damp cloth to clean. Do not immerse in water. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

- Always use fresh batteries of the same type and brand.
- Do not mix old and new batteries, or different types of batteries.
- Remove batteries if the toy will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
- Dispose of used batteries responsibly according to local regulations.

7.1 Engine Not Moving
- Ensure the ON/OFF switch on top of the engine is in the 'ON' position.
- Check that the batteries are correctly installed with the proper polarity.
- Replace old or depleted batteries with fresh AAA batteries.
- Inspect the wheels for any obstructions, such as hair or debris, and carefully remove them.
7.2 Engine Getting Stuck on Tracks/Surfaces
- Ensure the track pieces are securely connected and laid on a flat, even surface.
- Avoid using the engine on wooden tracks, as it is not designed for optimal performance on them.
- On carpeted surfaces, ensure the carpet pile is not too thick, which can impede movement.
