Installation and Operation Video Guide

Video 1: This official video from PANGAEA LLC provides a visual guide to the installation process, initial self-check, and alarm functionality of the Digital RV Propane Gas Detector. It demonstrates how to connect the wiring and what to expect during normal operation and in alarm conditions.

Operation

Once properly installed and powered, the detector will begin its operation. Understanding the indicators and controls is crucial for effective use.

Initial Power-On and Self-Check

Figure 5: The bright LED display shows gas concentration levels and the alarm indicator.

Upon initial power-on, the device will perform a self-check. During this process, the alarm LED and digital display will briefly activate and then switch off, indicating a successful self-test. The green 'POWER' LED will remain lit, confirming the unit is operational.

Gas Detection and Alarm

The detector continuously monitors propane gas levels. When the sensor detects propane gas concentrations above 800 parts per million (ppm):

  • The red 'ALARM' LED will flash.
  • The digital display will show the real-time gas concentration.
  • The 85dB audible alarm will activate.

The alarm will remain active until the gas clears or the 'TEST/RESET' button is pressed to mute the alarm.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the continued reliability and accuracy of your PANGAEA Digital RV Propane Gas Detector.

Weekly Testing

It is recommended to test the detector weekly to ensure it is functioning correctly. Press and hold the 'TEST/RESET' button. The alarm should sound, and the alarm LED should flash, confirming the alarm system is operational. Release the button to stop the test.

Cleaning

Gently wipe the exterior of the detector with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or paint on the unit, as this can damage the sensor or casing.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your detector, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Alarm sounds unexpectedly (false activation)High concentration of other airborne chemicals (e.g., cleaning sprays, aerosols) or minor gas fluctuations.Ventilate the area. Press the 'TEST/RESET' button to mute. If alarm persists, treat as a real leak. Avoid spraying products directly near the detector.
Digital display shows an error codeSensor malfunction or internal error.Refer to the specific error code in the full user manual (PDF) for detailed instructions. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
No power/unit not turning onIncorrect wiring, no power supply, or blown fuse.Check 12V DC power connections. Ensure red wire is to positive and black to negative. Verify power source is active. Check vehicle's fuse box.
Alarm does not sound during weekly testUnit malfunction.Ensure power is connected. If the unit is powered but the test fails, the detector may need replacement. Contact customer support.

If the alarm sounds due to a confirmed gas leak:

  1. Immediately open all windows and doors to ventilate the RV.
  2. Turn off all gas appliances and the main propane supply.
  3. Evacuate all occupants from the RV.
  4. Do not use any electrical switches or devices that could create a spark.
