1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the WORX WX086 Stud Finder Wall Scanner. This device is designed to accurately detect wood studs, metal objects (like rebar, pipes), and live AC wires hidden behind walls, floors, and ceilings. Please read this manual carefully before operation to ensure safe and effective use of your new tool.

2. Safety Instructions

Always observe basic safety precautions when using electrical tools to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury.

  • Read All Instructions: Familiarize yourself with the tool's functions and operating procedures.
  • Do Not Rely Solely on Detector: Always use caution when drilling, cutting, or nailing into walls, ceilings, or floors that may contain electrical wiring or plumbing.
  • Power Off Circuits: Before drilling or cutting, it is recommended to turn off the power to the area you are working on.
  • Avoid Water: Do not expose the device to water or operate it in damp conditions.
  • Battery Safety: Use only the specified charging method. Do not disassemble, short-circuit, or expose the battery to high temperatures.

5. Setup

5.1 Charging the Battery

The WX086 is equipped with a built-in Lithium-ion battery. Before first use, ensure the battery is fully charged.

  1. Connect the provided USB Type-C cable to the charging port on the device.
  2. Plug the other end of the USB cable into a compatible USB power adapter (not included) or a computer USB port.
  3. The battery indicator on the LCD display will show charging status.
  4. Once fully charged, disconnect the charging cable.

5.2 Powering On/Off

  • To power on the device, press and hold the power button (U) until the LCD screen illuminates.
  • To power off, press and hold the power button again until the screen turns off.

6. Operating Instructions

The WX086 features automatic calibration and mode detection. Simply power on the device and place it flat against the surface you wish to scan.

6.1 General Scanning Procedure

  1. Ensure the device is fully charged.
  2. Press the power button to turn on the device. It will automatically calibrate.
  3. Place the scanner flat against the wall surface. Ensure full contact.
  4. Slowly slide the scanner horizontally across the surface. Keep it flat against the wall.
  5. The LCD display will show the detected material (wood, metal, AC wire) and signal strength. An audible alarm will sound, increasing in pitch as you approach the center of the object.
  6. Mark the edges of the detected object as indicated on the display.

6.2 Specific Detection Modes

The WX086 automatically identifies the material. The display will show icons for:

  • Wood Stud Detection: Indicated by a wood beam icon. Max depth: 38mm.
  • Metal Detection: Indicated by a metal icon. Max depth: 120mm.
  • AC Wire Detection: Indicated by an AC wire icon. Max depth: 51mm.

7. Calibration

The WX086 features automatic calibration. Each time the device is powered on, it performs a self-calibration. For optimal accuracy, ensure the device is placed flat against the wall in an area free of known obstructions before starting a scan. If you move to a different wall or surface type, it is recommended to briefly lift the device and place it back down to allow it to recalibrate to the new surface conditions.

8. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the device in its protective cloth bag in a dry, dust-free environment when not in use.
  • Battery Care: For long-term storage, charge the battery to approximately 50% every 3-6 months to maintain battery health.
  • Avoid Drops: While designed with durability in mind, avoid dropping the device to prevent damage to internal components.

9. Troubleshooting
