1. Important Safeguards

  • Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner.
  • The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may cause injuries.
  • Do not use outdoors.
  • Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter or touch hot surfaces.
  • Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  • Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot oil or other hot liquids.
  • To disconnect, turn any control to 'off', then remove plug from wall outlet.
  • Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
  • Avoid contact with moving parts.
  • This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.

3. Before First Use

Before using your CalmDo bread machine for the first time, please follow these steps:

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove the bread machine and all accessories from the packaging.
  2. Clean: Wash the bread pan, kneading paddle, and automatic dispenser with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry all parts. Wipe the exterior of the bread machine with a damp cloth.
  3. Initial Run (Optional): To eliminate any manufacturing odors, you may run the machine empty on the 'Bake' program (Program 14) for about 10 minutes. Ensure good ventilation during this process. Allow the machine to cool completely afterward.

4. Setup

Proper setup ensures optimal performance and safety.

  1. Placement: Place the bread machine on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Ensure there is adequate ventilation around the appliance.
  2. Install Kneading Paddle: Insert the kneading paddle onto the shaft at the bottom of the bread pan. Ensure it is securely in place.
  3. Insert Bread Pan: Place the bread pan into the baking chamber. Press down firmly until it clicks into position.
  4. Connect Power: Plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet. The machine will beep, and the display will light up.

5. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to bake your homemade bread.

5.1. Basic Operation

  1. Add Ingredients: Add ingredients to the bread pan in the order specified by your recipe (typically liquids first, then dry ingredients, with yeast last). Ensure the kneading paddle is in place.
  2. Close Lid: Close the lid of the bread machine securely.
  3. Select Program: Turn the 'MENU/COLOR/WEIGHT' knob to select your desired program (e.g., Basic, French, Whole-wheat). The program number and name will appear on the display.
  4. Select Loaf Size: Press the 'MENU/COLOR/WEIGHT' knob to cycle through loaf sizes (1.0LB, 1.5LB, 2.2LB).
  5. Select Crust Color: Press the 'MENU/COLOR/WEIGHT' knob again to cycle through crust colors (Light, Medium, Dark).
  6. Start Baking: Press the 'START/PAUSE/STOP' button to begin the baking cycle. The machine will beep, and the display will show the remaining time.
  7. End of Cycle: Once the cycle is complete, the machine will beep multiple times and enter the 60-minute 'Keep Warm' phase. Press 'START/PAUSE/STOP' to stop the 'Keep Warm' function.
  8. Remove Bread: Using oven mitts, carefully remove the bread pan from the machine. Invert the pan to release the bread onto a wire rack to cool. If the kneading paddle remains in the bread, remove it carefully.

5.2. Program Selection

The CalmDo CD-BM1KG offers 15 pre-programmed settings. Rotate the 'MENU/COLOR/WEIGHT' knob to select from the following:

  • 1. Basic: For white and mixed breads.
  • 2. French: For light breads made from fine flour.
  • 3. Whole Wheat: For breads made with whole wheat flour.
  • 4. Quick: For quick rising breads.
  • 5. Sweet: For breads with high sugar content.
  • 6. Sandwich: For light, fluffy sandwich bread.
  • 7. Gluten Free: For gluten-free recipes.
  • 8. Mix: For kneading dough without baking.
  • 9. Yogurt: For making homemade yogurt.
  • 10. Dessert: For various dessert recipes.
  • 11. Dough: For preparing dough for rolls, pizza, etc.
  • 12. Jam: For making homemade jams.
  • 13. Cake: For baking cakes.
  • 14. Bake: For baking pre-made dough or additional baking.
  • 15. Homemade: Customizable program for your own recipes.

5.3. Delay Function (15-Hour)

The delay function allows you to set a timer for the bread machine to start baking at a later time, up to 15 hours. This is useful for having fresh bread ready in the morning.

  1. Add all ingredients to the bread pan.
  2. Select your desired program, loaf size, and crust color.
  3. Press the 'DELAY' button repeatedly to adjust the total delay time (including baking time) in 10-minute increments.
  4. Press 'START/PAUSE/STOP' to activate the delay timer. The display will count down until the program begins.

5.4. Automatic Fruit and Nut Dispenser

The bread machine is equipped with a removable automatic dispenser for fruits, nuts, or other mix-ins. This ensures ingredients are added at the correct stage of the kneading cycle.

  1. Open the dispenser lid located on top of the bread machine.
  2. Add your desired fruits, nuts, or other ingredients into the dispenser. Do not overfill.
  3. Close the dispenser lid.
  4. During the kneading cycle, the machine will automatically open the dispenser and add the ingredients. You may hear a series of beeps before the dispenser activates.

6. Cleaning and Maintenance

Regular cleaning ensures the longevity and hygiene of your bread machine.

  1. Unplug: Always unplug the appliance and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Bread Pan and Kneading Paddle: Remove the bread pan and kneading paddle. Wash them with warm, soapy water. For stubborn residue, soak the pan and paddle for about 30 minutes. Do not use abrasive cleaners or metal scouring pads as this can damage the non-stick coating.
  3. Automatic Dispenser: The dispenser is removable for easy cleaning. Wash it with warm, soapy water, rinse, and dry thoroughly.
  4. Lid: The lid is detachable for effortless cleaning. Wipe it with a damp cloth.
  5. Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the bread machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not immerse the main unit in water or any other liquid.
  6. Storage: Ensure all parts are clean and dry before storing the bread machine in a cool, dry place.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your bread machine, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
