MG Chemicals 8330D Silver Conductive Epoxy Adhesive 160g Kit Instruction Manual

Model: 8330D-160G

1. Product Overview

The MG Chemicals 8330D Silver Conductive Epoxy Adhesive is a high-performance, two-part, silver-filled epoxy designed for creating electrically conductive bonds. This 160 gram kit provides a smooth, non-sagging, thixotropic adhesive that adheres effectively to a wide range of substrates. It is suitable for quick, cold-soldering repairs, as a solder replacement for heat-sensitive electronic components, or for establishing conductive connections where traditional soldering is not feasible, such as bonding to glass, soft metals, or certain plastics. The 8330D is highly filled to ensure maximum electrical conductivity.

  • Excellent adhesion to various substrates including glass, soft metals, and plastics.
  • SVHC (Substance of Very High Concern) free.

2. Safety Information

WARNING: Always read the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for this product before use. The SDS provides detailed information on hazards, precautions, first aid, and safe handling procedures.

  • Use in a well-ventilated area.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves and eye protection.
  • Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice.
  • Do not ingest. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Dispose of waste materials according to local regulations.

3. Setup and Preparation

Proper surface preparation is crucial for achieving optimal adhesion and conductivity.

3.1. Recommended Preparation:

  1. Clean the substrate thoroughly with Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) or MG Chemicals #824 cleaner.
  2. Ensure the surface is completely free of oils, dust, grease, moisture, and other residues.
  3. Allow the cleaned surface to dry completely before application.

3.2. Material Storage and Handling:

Store the product between 16 °C and 27 °C (61 °F and 81 °F) in a dry area, away from direct sunlight. To maximize shelf life, recap the product containers firmly when not in use.

4. Operating Instructions (Application)

Follow these steps for proper mixing and application of the 8330D epoxy adhesive.

4.1. Mixing Instructions (Can or Jar):

  1. Before use, stir each part (Part A and Part B) individually to re-incorporate any material that may have separated during storage.
  2. Measure 1 part by weight of Part A.
  3. Measure 1 part by weight of Part B.
  4. Thoroughly mix Part A and Part B together until a uniform color and consistency are achieved. Ensure no streaks or unmixed material remain.

4.2. Application:

Once mixed, apply the adhesive to the desired application area. The working time for 8330D is approximately 20 minutes.

5. Curing Instructions

The 8330D epoxy can be cured at room temperature or accelerated with heat.

5.1. Room Temperature Cure:

Allow the adhesive to cure at room temperature (22 °C / 72 °F) for 6 hours. Service cure is achieved in 65 minutes at 22 °C.

5.2. Heat Cure (Recommended for Best Conductivity):

To achieve optimal conductivity and faster curing, cure the adhesive in an oven using one of the following time/temperature options:

  • 10 minutes at 65 °C (149 °F)
  • 5 minutes at 80 °C (176 °F)

6. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues that may arise during the use of the 8330D epoxy adhesive.

6.1. Poor Electrical Conductivity:

  • Incomplete Mixing: Ensure Part A and Part B are thoroughly mixed until a uniform color and consistency are achieved. Unmixed components will result in poor performance.
  • Improper Cure: Verify that the epoxy has fully cured according to the instructions. Heat curing is recommended for best conductivity.
  • Contamination: Ensure the substrate and mixing tools are free from contaminants (oils, dust, moisture) that can interfere with conductivity.

6.2. Poor Adhesion:

  • Inadequate Surface Preparation: The substrate must be clean and dry. Refer to Section 3.1 for recommended cleaning procedures.
  • Surface Compatibility: While 8330D bonds to many materials, ensure the specific substrate is compatible.
  • Improper Mixing/Curing: As with conductivity, proper mixing and curing are essential for strong adhesion.

6.3. Short Working Time:

  • High Temperature: Higher ambient temperatures will reduce the working time. Work in a cooler environment if possible.
  • Batch Size: Mixing larger quantities can generate more heat, accelerating the cure. Mix smaller batches if extended working time is needed.
