2. Compatibility

3. Setup and Installation

The MAG Turntable M27BS unit comes pre-assembled, ready for installation onto your turntable's tonearm. Ensure you handle the unit with care, especially the delicate stylus.

Installation Steps

  1. Power Off: Ensure your turntable is powered off and unplugged from the mains electricity before beginning installation.
  2. Remove Old Headshell (if applicable): If replacing an existing headshell, carefully unscrew and remove it from your tonearm. Store it safely if you intend to reuse it.
  3. Attach New Headshell: Gently insert the MAG Turntable M27BS headshell into the tonearm's socket. Rotate the locking collar on the tonearm clockwise until the headshell is securely fastened. Do not overtighten.
  4. Balance Tonearm: Follow your turntable's specific instructions to balance the tonearm. This typically involves adjusting the counterweight at the rear of the tonearm until the tonearm floats freely and horizontally.
  5. Set Tracking Force: The recommended tracking force for the M27BS cartridge is 3.0 grams, with an acceptable range of 2.5 to 3.5 grams. Playing Records

  1. Place a record on the turntable platter. Ensure the record and platter are clean.
  2. Ensure the turntable speed is set correctly for the record you are playing (e.g., 33 1/3 RPM or 45 RPM).
  3. Carefully lift the tonearm using the cueing lever. Avoid touching the stylus directly.
  4. Position the stylus over the lead-in groove of the record.
  5. Gently lower the tonearm using the cueing lever. The stylus will make contact with the record and begin playing.
  6. At the end of the record, lift the tonearm using the cueing lever and return it to its rest.

  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the stylus for accumulated dirt, debris, or visible damage. A magnifying glass can be helpful for this. A damaged stylus can cause significant harm to your records.
  • Replacement: The stylus has a finite lifespan, typically several hundred to a thousand hours of play, depending on care and record condition. If you notice a degradation in sound quality (e.g., increased distortion, sibilance) or visible wear, the stylus should be replaced. The M27BS cartridge uses a replaceable stereo spherical diamond tip.

Cartridge and Headshell Care
