1. Overview

The DeLonghi Dedica EC785.GY Metallics Coffee Machine is designed to bring barista-style coffee into your home. This traditional pump espresso machine allows you to brew a variety of coffee and milk-based beverages using your preferred ground coffee or E.S.E. pods. It features Thermoblock technology for optimal temperature and an adjustable milk frother for creamy textures.

2. What's in the Box

Upon opening the packaging, please ensure all the following components are present:

  • DeLonghi Dedica EC785.GY Coffee Machine
  • Frothing Jar (Milk Jug)
  • Tamper
  • Portafilter
  • Filter Baskets (for single shot, double shot, and E.S.E. pods)

3. Setup

3.1 Unpacking

  1. Carefully remove all components from the packaging.
  2. Remove any protective films or stickers from the machine and accessories.
  3. Place the machine on a stable, flat surface, away from water sources and heat.

3.2 Initial Cleaning

  • Wash the water tank, portafilter, and filter baskets with warm water and mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Wipe the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth.

3.3 Water Tank Filling

  1. Remove the water tank from the back of the machine.
  2. Fill the tank with fresh, cold drinking water up to the MAX level indicator.
  3. Replace the water tank securely in its position.

3.4 Power Connection

Plug the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet. The machine will enter standby mode, indicated by a flashing light.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Making Espresso

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled.
  2. Turn on the machine. Wait for the indicator lights to stop flashing, indicating the machine has reached the optimal temperature.
  3. Insert the desired filter basket (single or double shot) into the portafilter.
  4. Add finely ground coffee to the filter basket. For a single shot, use approximately 7g; for a double shot, use approximately 14g.
  5. Tamp the coffee firmly and evenly using the provided tamper.
  6. Attach the portafilter to the brewing head by aligning it and rotating it to the right until it locks securely.
  7. Place your espresso cup(s) on the drip tray.
  8. Press the single or double espresso button to start brewing. The machine will automatically stop when the desired volume is reached.

4.2 Frothing Milk for Cappuccinos and Lattes

  1. Fill the frothing jug with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) up to the recommended level.
  2. Press the steam button on the machine. Wait for the steam indicator light to illuminate steadily.
  3. Position the steam wand into the milk, just below the surface.
  4. Turn the steam dial to release steam. Move the jug up and down to create foam.
  5. Once the milk reaches the desired temperature and texture, turn off the steam dial.
  6. Wipe the steam wand immediately with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue from drying.

4.3 Using E.S.E. Pods

  1. Use the specific E.S.E. pod filter basket.
  2. Place one E.S.E. pod into the filter basket.
  3. Follow steps 5-8 from "4.1 Making Espresso".

5. Maintenance

5.1 Daily Cleaning

  • Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily.
  • Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove spent coffee grounds and rinse the portafilter and filter baskets under running water.
  • Steam Wand: Immediately after frothing milk, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove any milk residue. Purge a small amount of steam to clear the nozzle.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

5.2 Descaling

Descaling is crucial for maintaining machine performance and longevity. The frequency depends on water hardness and usage. The machine will indicate when descaling is required (refer to the machine's indicator lights in the full manual).

  1. Use a suitable descaling solution recommended by DeLonghi.
  2. Follow the instructions on the descaling solution packaging and the machine's specific descaling procedure.
  3. Rinse the machine thoroughly after descaling by running several cycles of clean water.
