Setup

1. Unpacking and Initial Inspection

Carefully remove the binoculars and all accessories from the packaging. Inspect the binoculars for any signs of damage. Ensure all components listed in the packaging are present.

2. Attaching the Neck Strap

Thread the provided neck strap through the strap lugs on each side of the binoculars. Secure the strap firmly to prevent accidental drops during use.

3. Adjusting Eyecups

The eyecups can be twisted up or down to accommodate users with or without eyeglasses. Twist them down if you wear glasses to ensure a full field of view. Twist them up if you do not wear glasses for comfortable viewing and to block stray light.

4. Interpupillary Distance Adjustment

Hold the binoculars up to your eyes and look through them. Adjust the distance between the two barrels by pivoting them until you see a single, clear circular field of view. This ensures proper alignment with your eyes and comfortable viewing.

Operating Instructions

1. Focusing with Sports-Auto-Focus

The Steiner Navigator Pro features a Sports-Auto-Focus system, designed for ease of use in dynamic environments.

  1. Look through the binoculars at an object approximately 20 meters (65 feet) away or further.
  2. Adjust the individual diopter settings on each eyepiece until the object appears sharp and clear.
  3. Once set, objects from 20 meters to infinity will remain in sharp focus without further adjustment, allowing for quick target acquisition.

2. Using the Integrated Compass

The Navigator Pro includes an HD fluid-damped, illuminated analog compass for reliable navigation.

  • To activate the compass illumination, press the power button located near the compass housing.
  • The compass provides a clear bearing reading within the field of view, allowing for simultaneous observation and navigation.
  • Ensure the binoculars are held level for accurate readings, especially when taking precise bearings.

3. General Usage Tips

  • Always use the neck strap to prevent accidental drops, especially in marine environments where surfaces can be slippery.
  • Keep lens caps on when not in use to protect the optics from dust, moisture, and scratches.
  • Avoid pointing the binoculars directly at the sun or any intense light source, as this can cause permanent eye damage.

Maintenance and Care

1. Cleaning the Lenses

Use a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for optical lenses. For stubborn smudges or saltwater residue, use a small amount of lens cleaning fluid applied to the cloth, not directly to the lens. Gently wipe in a circular motion. Avoid using abrasive materials or harsh chemicals, which can damage lens coatings.

2. Cleaning the Body

The Makrolon polycarbonate housing can be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap if necessary. Rinse with fresh water if exposed to saltwater and dry thoroughly to prevent residue buildup.

3. Storage

Store the binoculars in a cool, dry place, preferably in their protective case, when not in use. Avoid extreme temperatures and high humidity, which can affect performance and longevity.

4. Battery Replacement (for Compass Illumination)

The compass illumination is powered by 1 Lithium Metal battery. Refer to the battery compartment cover for specific battery type and replacement instructions. Ensure proper polarity when inserting new batteries to ensure functionality.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Blurred imageImproper diopter setting; dirty lenses; interpupillary distance not set correctly.Adjust individual diopter settings for each eye; clean lenses with appropriate materials; adjust interpupillary distance until a single circular field of view is seen.
Compass illumination not workingDead battery; incorrect battery insertion.Replace the Lithium Metal battery; ensure correct polarity when inserting the new battery.
Double image or eye strainInterpupillary distance not set correctly.Adjust the distance between the barrels until a single, clear circular field of view is achieved, aligning with your eyes.
Fogging inside lensesExtreme temperature changes (unlikely due to nitrogen filling, but possible if seal is compromised).Allow binoculars to acclimate to ambient temperature. If persistent, contact Steiner customer support for professional inspection.
