2. Safety Information
Always observe basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury.
- Electrical Safety: Ensure the power supply matches the pump's voltage (115 Volts). Always connect to a grounded outlet. Do not operate the pump with a damaged cord or plug.
- Water Immersion: This is a submersible pump. It must be fully submerged during operation to prevent overheating.
- Hazardous Materials: Do not use this pump for flammable or corrosive liquids, or in environments with explosive gases.
- Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the pump and the area being drained.
- Maintenance: Disconnect power before performing any maintenance or cleaning.

5. Setup
- Initial Submersion: For the first use, fully submerge the pump in water to prevent air lock. This ensures proper priming and operation.
- Attach Discharge Hose: Select the appropriate adapter (1", 1-1/2" multipurpose, or 3/4" GHT) for your discharge hose. Securely attach the adapter to the pump's discharge port and then connect your hose. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
- Placement: Place the pump on a stable, level surface in the area to be drained. Ensure the pump is upright. Falling or tilting the pump can disable the float switch, affecting automatic operation.
- Power Connection: Route the 25-foot power cord to a grounded 115V electrical outlet. Ensure the cord is not pinched or damaged.

6. Operating Instructions
The Green Expert sump pump offers both automatic and manual operating modes via its adjustable float switch.

Image 6.1: Visual guide for setting the pump to manual or automatic operation.
6.1 Automatic Mode
For automatic operation, ensure the float switch is free to move. The buckle design allows the float to operate freely. The pump will automatically turn on when the water level rises and lift the float, and turn off when the water level drops and the float lowers. This mode is ideal for continuous monitoring of water levels in sump pits or basements.
6.2 Manual Mode
To operate the pump continuously, you can clamp the float switch to the pump body in an uplifted position. This will keep the pump running until it is unplugged. Use this mode for situations where you need to drain water below the automatic shut-off level, such as emptying a pool or hot tub. Caution: Do not run the pump dry in manual mode, as this can cause damage.

7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your pump.
- Disconnect Power: Always unplug the pump from the power source before any maintenance.
- Clean Impeller Area: Periodically check the intake screen and impeller area for debris (leaves, sediment, etc.) that may obstruct flow. Remove any blockages carefully.
- Inspect Power Cord: Examine the power cord for any signs of damage, cuts, or fraying. Do not use the pump if the cord is damaged.
- Storage: If storing the pump for an extended period, clean it thoroughly with fresh water and allow it to dry completely before storing in a dry, protected area.
8. Troubleshooting
Refer to the following table for common issues and their solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump does not start | No power; Float switch not activated (Auto mode); Impeller jammed | Check power connection/outlet; Ensure water level is high enough or switch to manual; Clear impeller of debris (unplug first) |
| Low flow rate | Partial blockage; Kinked hose; Air lock | Clean intake/impeller; Straighten hose; Ensure pump is fully submerged for initial prime |
| Pump runs continuously (Auto mode) | Float switch stuck in 'on' position; Float switch malfunction | Check float for obstructions; Inspect float switch for damage |
| Pump cycles on/off too frequently | Sump pit too narrow; Float switch range too small | Adjust float switch position if possible; Consider a wider sump pit if feasible |
