1. Introduction and Overview
The Bosch BLAZE™ GLM165-22 is a fully featured laser distance measure designed for accuracy and durability. It provides precise measurements up to 165 feet with an accuracy of +/- 1/16 inch. The device features an easy-to-read color display and a robust, IP65-rated housing, making it suitable for demanding jobsite conditions.
Key features include:
- 165 Ft. Laser Measure: Features an easy-to-read color display and greater accuracy. This tool is laser class II and has an output of 635 nm (<1 mW).
- Backlit Color Display: The easy-to-read display illuminates numbers with distinct resolution, for work in low-light or no-light conditions.
- Accuracy: The laser distance measure can measure up to 165 feet and provides accuracy up to +/- 1/16 inch.
- Durable: The product is IP65 rated and is able to withstand jobsite conditions.
- Live Measuring: Provides default real-time measurement that adjusts as you move closer and farther from target, just like a tape measure.
- Add/Subtract: The laser distance measure allows the user to add or subtract measurements.

2. Setup
2.1 Battery Installation
The GLM165-22 requires two (2) AA alkaline batteries for operation. To install or replace batteries:
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
- Open the cover by sliding it or unlatching it as indicated on the device.
- Insert the two AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as marked inside the compartment.
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
2.2 Attaching the Belt Clip
The device comes with a removable belt clip for convenient carrying. To attach the belt clip:
- Align the belt clip with the screw holes on the back of the laser measure.
- Use a suitable screwdriver to secure the clip with the provided screws.

3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Basic Measurement
To take a single measurement:
- Press the red measurement button once to activate the laser.
- Point the laser at the target surface.
- Press the red measurement button again to take the measurement. The result will be displayed on the screen.
The device also features a default real-time measurement mode, which continuously updates the distance as you move the device closer to or farther from the target, similar to a traditional tape measure.

3.2 Measurement Functions
The GLM165-22 offers multiple measurement functions:
- Length: Standard point-to-point distance measurement.
- Area: Calculates the area of a surface by taking two measurements (length and width).
- Volume: Calculates the volume of a space by taking three measurements (length, width, and height).
- Indirect Height (Pythagoras): Measures height indirectly by taking two or three measurements, useful for inaccessible points.
- Add/Subtract: Allows for adding or subtracting multiple measurements.
To switch between functions, press the 'Func' button. Refer to the on-screen icons for the selected function.

3.3 Rounding Button
The rounding button allows you to round measurements to the fraction that best suits your application, improving readability and usability for specific tasks.
4. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and accuracy of your Bosch GLM165-22, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh cleaning agents or solvents. Ensure the laser lens and display are kept clean for optimal performance.
- Storage: Store the device in its pouch in a dry, dust-free environment when not in use. Avoid extreme temperatures.
- Battery Replacement: Replace batteries promptly when the low battery indicator appears on the display to prevent interruption during use. Always use new, high-quality AA alkaline batteries.
- Calibration: While the device is factory-calibrated, if you suspect inaccuracies, refer to the full product manual for potential user calibration steps or contact Bosch service.

5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Bosch GLM165-22, try the following:
- Device Not Turning On: Check if the batteries are correctly inserted and have sufficient charge. Replace batteries if necessary.
- Inaccurate Readings: Ensure the laser lens is clean and unobstructed. Make sure the target surface is flat and reflective enough for the laser. Avoid measuring through transparent materials like glass. Ensure the device is stable during measurement.
- Laser Not Visible: In bright light conditions or over long distances, the red laser dot may be difficult to see. This is normal. The device still measures accurately.
- Error Messages: If an error code appears on the display, consult the comprehensive Bosch GLM165-22 manual for specific error code meanings and solutions.
- Device Unresponsive: Remove and reinsert the batteries to perform a soft reset.
