1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting your MINISFORUM UM870 Slim Mini PC. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the device to ensure proper functionality and longevity.

The MINISFORUM UM870 Slim Mini PC is a compact desktop computer designed for various applications, from light gaming and image editing to office work and multimedia consumption. It features an AMD Ryzen 7 8745H processor, integrated AMD Radeon 780M Graphics, and supports triple display output.

3. Product Overview

3.1 Front Panel

  • Power Button: Press to turn the Mini PC on or off.
  • USB 3.2 Type-A Ports (x2): For connecting USB devices such as keyboards, mice, or external storage.
  • Audio Jack (x1): For connecting headphones or speakers.
  • DMIC: Digital Microphone.
  • Clear CMOS: Button to reset BIOS settings.

3.2 Rear Panel

  • DC 19V Power Input: Connect the provided power adapter here.
  • RJ45 2.5G LAN Port: For wired network connection.
  • HDMI Port: Connect to a display for video and audio output (up to 8K@60Hz).
  • USB4 Port: High-speed port for data transfer, video output (up to 8K@60Hz), and power delivery (65-100W input, 15W output).
  • DisplayPort (DP): Connect to a display for video output (up to 4K@60Hz).
  • USB 2.0 Ports (x2): For connecting USB devices.

4. Setup Guide

4.1 Initial Connection

  1. Connect to Display: Use the provided HDMI cable to connect the Mini PC to your monitor or TV. You can also use the USB4 or DisplayPort for additional displays. The device supports up to three independent displays.
  2. Connect Peripherals: Plug in your USB keyboard and mouse into the available USB ports on the front or rear panel.
  3. Network Connection: For a wired connection, connect an Ethernet cable from your router to the 2.5G LAN port on the rear panel. For wireless, ensure your Wi-Fi network is available during the operating system setup.
  4. Power Connection: Connect the US Power Adapter to the DC 19V input port on the rear panel, then plug the adapter into a power outlet.

4.2 First Boot and Operating System Setup

  1. Press the power button on the front panel. The power indicator light will illuminate.
  2. The Mini PC will boot up. If an operating system (e.g., Windows) is pre-installed, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the initial setup, including language, region, network connection, and user account creation.
  3. If no operating system is pre-installed, you will need to install one from a bootable USB drive or other media. Refer to the operating system's installation guide for detailed steps.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power Management

  • Power On: Press the power button once.
  • Shut Down: From the operating system, select "Shut Down." Alternatively, press and hold the power button for 5-7 seconds for a forced shutdown (use only when necessary).
  • Sleep Mode: From the operating system, select "Sleep." Press the power button or move the mouse/keyboard to wake the device.

5.2 Display Configuration

The UM870 Slim supports up to three displays simultaneously using its HDMI, USB4, and DisplayPort outputs. To configure multiple displays:

  1. Connect your displays to the available video output ports.
  2. In Windows, right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings."
  3. From here, you can detect, arrange, and set the resolution and orientation for each connected display. Options include "Duplicate these displays," "Extend these displays," or "Show only on 1/2/3."

5.3 Storage Expansion

The UM870 Slim Mini PC offers flexible storage expansion options:

  • It comes with a 1TB 2280 PCIe4.0 SSD.
  • There is an additional PCIe4.0 SSD slot available, supporting up to 2TB.
  • The DDR5 RAM can be upgraded up to 48GB per SODIMM slot, with two slots available for a total of 96GB.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

  • Ensure the Mini PC is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior of the device.
  • For dust accumulation in vents, use compressed air. Do not insert any objects into the vents.
  • Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.

6.2 Driver Updates

Regularly update drivers for optimal performance and compatibility. Drivers can typically be found on the MINISFORUM official website or through your operating system's update utility.

6.3 BIOS Reset (Clear CMOS)

If you encounter boot issues or need to reset BIOS settings to default, locate the "Clear CMOS" button on the front panel (refer to Figure 3.1). With the device powered off and unplugged, press and hold this button for 5-10 seconds. Reconnect power and attempt to boot.

9.1 Warranty Information

MINISFORUM provides a 1-year warranty for the UM870 Slim Mini PC. An extended 6-month warranty may be available upon product registration. Please retain your proof of purchase for warranty claims.
