2. Important Information & Safety
IMPORTANT:
Chainsaw chains are specific to chainsaw models. It is crucial to select the correct chain for your Einhell RBK 3735. Chainsaws can have different cutting sets, and both the total length and cutting length can vary. Additionally, different chain systems (with large or small saw teeth) exist, which require specific drive sprockets.
To ensure compatibility, it is highly recommended to:
- Count the drive links on your existing chain.
- Determine the pitch of your existing chain (e.g., 3/8" or 0.325").
- Measure the groove width of the drive links (e.g., 1.3mm).
Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection when handling or installing chainsaw chains.
3. Installation & Chain Selection
3.1 Measuring Cutting Length
The 'cutting length' refers to the effective cutting area of the chain and bar. It is measured from the chainsaw's housing to the tip of the guide bar when the chain is mounted. This is not the total length of the chain itself, which will always be longer.
Figure 2: Correct method for measuring the cutting length of a chainsaw bar. The measurement is taken from the chainsaw body to the end of the guide bar, not the full length of the bar itself.
3.2 Identifying Chain Specifications
To ensure you have the correct replacement chain, identify the following specifications from your existing chain or chainsaw manual:
- Pitch: The distance between three consecutive rivets divided by two. Common pitches are 3/8" LP (Low Profile) or 0.325".
- Drive Links: The number of links on the chain that fit into the guide bar groove. Count these carefully.
- Gauge: The thickness of the drive links, which must match the groove width of your guide bar. Common gauges are 1.1mm, 1.3mm, or 1.5mm.

3.3 General Installation Steps
- Safety First: Ensure the chainsaw is turned off, unplugged (electric) or spark plug cap removed (gas), and cool before beginning installation.
- Remove Old Chain: Loosen the bar nuts and remove the clutch cover. Carefully remove the old chain and guide bar.
- Clean Components: Clean any sawdust, debris, or old oil from the guide bar groove, sprocket, and clutch area.
- Install New Chain: Place the new chain around the clutch sprocket and then guide it into the groove of the guide bar. Ensure the cutting edges of the chain are facing the correct direction (usually forward on the top of the bar).
- Reattach Bar and Cover: Slide the guide bar back into position, ensuring the chain tension pin engages with the hole in the bar. Replace the clutch cover and hand-tighten the bar nuts.
- Adjust Chain Tension: Adjust the chain tension screw until the chain is snug against the bottom of the guide bar, but can still be pulled freely by hand. There should be no sag on the underside of the bar. Tighten the bar nuts securely.
- Check Lubrication: Ensure the oil reservoir is filled with appropriate chain oil.
4. Operation
Before each use, perform the following checks:
- Chain Tension: Verify that the chain tension is correct. A properly tensioned chain should be snug but still able to be pulled around the bar by hand.
- Chain Lubrication: Ensure the chainsaw's oil reservoir is adequately filled with chain oil to prevent premature wear of the chain and guide bar.
- Safety Gear: Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including a helmet with face shield, hearing protection, safety glasses, heavy-duty gloves, and chainsaw protective trousers/chaps.
Operate the chainsaw according to the manufacturer's instructions for your specific chainsaw model.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance extends the life of your chainsaw chain and ensures optimal cutting performance.
5.1 Sharpening
The Secura square-chisel chains are designed to be easy to sharpen. Sharpen the chain regularly to maintain cutting efficiency. Refer to your chainsaw manual or a professional guide for the correct sharpening angles and file size for a 3/8" LP pitch chain.
5.2 Cleaning
After each use, clean the chain and guide bar to remove sawdust, resin, and debris. This prevents buildup that can hinder performance and cause wear.
5.3 Lubrication
Ensure continuous and adequate lubrication during operation. Check the oiler function regularly. When storing the chain, apply a light coat of oil to prevent rust.
5.4 Inspection
Periodically inspect the chain for signs of wear, damage, or stretched links. Replace the chain if any damage is found or if it becomes excessively worn or stretched.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Chain not cutting efficiently | Dull chain, incorrect sharpening angle, improper chain direction. | Sharpen the chain, verify sharpening angles, check chain installation direction. |
| Chain smoking or overheating | Insufficient lubrication, incorrect chain tension (too tight), dull chain. | Check oil reservoir and oiler, adjust chain tension, sharpen chain. |
| Chain jumping off bar | Incorrect chain tension (too loose), worn guide bar, worn sprocket. | Adjust chain tension, inspect and replace guide bar or sprocket if worn. |
