4.2 Modulation Modes

The transceiver supports the following modes:

  • FM (Frequency Modulation): For clear, local communication.
  • AM (Amplitude Modulation): Standard mode for general communication.
  • USB (Upper Sideband): For long-distance communication.
  • LSB (Lower Sideband): For long-distance communication.
  • PA (Public Address): Allows the radio to function as a public address system.

4.3 Advanced Functions

  • CTCSS/DCS: Use these codes for selective calling, allowing you to hear only transmissions from stations using the same code. Refer to the detailed manual for programming steps.
  • Noise Reduction (NRC): Activate TX and RX Noise Reduction to minimize background interference. Levels can be adjusted via the menu.
  • Dual Watch (DW): Monitor two different frequencies simultaneously.
  • Time-Out Timer (TOT): Prevents excessively long transmissions by automatically stopping transmission after a preset time.
  • HI-CUT: Filters out high-frequency noise for clearer audio.
  • NB/ANL (Noise Blanker/Automatic Noise Limiter): Reduces pulse-type noise (e.g., ignition noise) and continuous noise.
  • SWR Protection: Automatically reduces transmit power if high SWR is detected, protecting the final amplifier.
  • Voltage Protection: Protects the radio from over-voltage conditions.
  • VOX Function: Enables voice-activated transmission without pressing the PTT button.
  • Echo Function: Adds an echo effect to your transmitted audio.
  • RF Gain Adjustment: Adjusts the receiver's sensitivity to incoming signals.
  • Mike Gain Adjustment: Adjusts the microphone input sensitivity.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your AT-5555N II, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Power: Check the DC power cable connections and ensure the vehicle's power source is active. Verify the fuse is intact.
  • No Transmission/Reception: Ensure the antenna is properly connected and tuned. Check the selected frequency and mode. Verify squelch settings are not too high.
  • Poor Audio Quality: Adjust the microphone gain, RF gain, and squelch settings. Check for activated noise reduction features (NRC, NB/ANL) and adjust as needed. Ensure the microphone is securely connected.
  • High SWR Warning: Immediately stop transmitting. Check your antenna system for proper installation, tuning, and cable integrity.
  • Display Issues: Check the LED brightness adjustment in the menu.
