4. Setup Guide

4.1 Installation and Placement

Proper installation and placement are crucial for optimal performance. Consider the following guidelines:

  • Line of Sight: Position the WAVLINK AP with a clear line of sight to cover your desired outdoor area. Minimize obstructions such as walls, trees, and buildings.
  • Central Location: Place the AP at the center of your intended outdoor coverage area to ensure even signal distribution.
  • Height: Mounting the AP at a higher elevation (e.g., on a pole, under an eave, or on a wall) typically improves coverage and reduces interference from ground-level obstacles.
  • Ethernet Cable Range: Ensure the location is reachable by the Ethernet cable from your router. CAT5E or above cables generally support up to 100 meters.

4.2 Power Supply (PoE)

The WAVLINK outdoor AP supports PoE (802.3at/af). If your router lacks a PoE port, a PoE adapter may be required to power the AP via the Ethernet cable. PoE simplifies wiring by combining data and power transmission into a single cable. When using PoE, confirm voltage and power requirements for both the WAVLINK AP and PoE injector (Active PoE: 48V; Passive PoE: 54V).

4.3 Starlink Integration Guide

For Starlink users, the standard Gen 2 router lacks an Ethernet port. An additional Starlink Ethernet adapter is required to connect the WAVLINK outdoor AP to the Starlink router when operating in Access Point (AP) mode.

5. Operating Modes

The WAVLINK AX1800 supports various operating modes to adapt to different network setups and requirements:

  • Mesh Mode: Creates a seamless mesh network with other compatible devices for extended coverage and seamless roaming.
  • AP (Access Point) Mode: Converts a wired network connection into a wireless one, acting as a central hub for wireless devices.
  • Router Mode: Functions as a primary router, managing network traffic and providing internet access.
  • Repeater Mode: Extends the range of an existing wireless network by repeating its signal.
  • AP+Repeater Mode: Combines Access Point functionality with signal repeating for broader coverage.

7. Troubleshooting

Common questions and solutions for the WN573HX1 model:

7.1 How to make the WiFi signal reach 3km?

If you want the WiFi signal to reach 3km, please try to use two devices to work together. You could configure the 1st Wavlink device as AP mode and configure the 2nd Wavlink device as repeater mode to repeat the WiFi signal of the 1st Wavlink device.

7.2 Why the WiFi signal could not reach the advertised distance?

  1. Please make sure there is no obstacle between the Wavlink device and the target area. If there is an obstacle between them, the performance will be limited.
  2. Please do not install the Wavlink device too high for better performance; it is better to install the Wavlink device 2-3m higher than the ground.
  3. There should be four antennas; two of them should be the 2.4G antennas and two of them should be the 5G antennas. Please make sure you install the antennas at the corresponding connectors.

7.3 Why the Wavlink device could not repeat the WiFi signal of the existing WiFi signal?

  1. Our device does not support the WiFi signal with the Captive Portal. If you connect the WiFi signal by your phone, you will enter a web page and enter or confirm some information. This means the WiFi signal should come with the Captive Portal.
  2. When you try to repeat the existing WiFi signal, please make sure you enter the correct WiFi password of the existing WiFi signal.
  3. To repeat the 5G signal of the host router, there should be less Wireless Interference on the 5G signal.
  4. Please make sure the MAC filter of the host router should be disabled and the DHCP should be enabled.
