4. Setup

4.1. Charging the Scanner

Before initial use, fully charge the scanner. Connect the provided USB cable to the scanner's charging port and the other end to a USB power source (e.g., computer USB port, USB wall adapter). The charging indicator light will typically show charging status and turn off or change color when fully charged.

4.2. Wireless Setup (2.4Ghz)

  1. Insert the 2.4Ghz USB receiver into an available USB port on your computer or host device.
  2. The system will automatically detect and install the necessary drivers. This may take a few moments.
  3. Turn on the barcode scanner. It should automatically connect to the receiver. A successful connection is usually indicated by an audible beep or a change in the scanner's indicator light.

4.3. Wired Setup (USB)

  1. Connect one end of the USB cable to the scanner's USB port.
  2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to an available USB port on your computer or host device.
  3. The scanner will be recognized as a standard HID keyboard device, and no additional drivers are typically required. It will function immediately upon connection.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Scanning Barcodes

To scan a barcode:

  1. Ensure the scanner is powered on and connected (either wirelessly or via USB cable).
  2. Point the scanner's window at the barcode you wish to scan.
  3. Press the trigger button. A red aiming beam will appear. Position the beam to cover the entire barcode.
  4. Upon a successful scan, the scanner will emit a beep, and the indicator light will flash. The scanned data will be transmitted to your connected device.

5.2. Scanning Modes

The EV-W208 supports two primary scanning modes:

  • Instant Upload Mode: In this default mode, scanned barcode data is immediately transmitted to the connected device.
  • Storage Mode: If the scanner is out of range or not connected, it can store up to 150,000 barcodes in its internal memory. To upload stored data, bring the scanner back into range or connect it via USB, then scan the 'Upload Data' configuration barcode (refer to the separate configuration guide for specific barcodes).

5.3. Supported Barcode Types

The scanner is capable of reading a wide range of 1D and 2D barcodes:

  • 1D Barcodes: Code 39 Full ASCII, Code 39 TriOptic, Code 128, Code 128 Full ASCII, Codabar, Code 93, Discrete 2 of 5, IATA, RSS variants, Chinese 2 of 5, Interleaved 2 of 5, China postal service code, etc.
  • 2D Barcodes: PDF417, QR Code, Aztec, DataMatrix, Maxicode, MicroPDF417, SPEC OCR.

5.4. Keyboard Layouts

The scanner supports over twenty different countries' keyboard layouts. Refer to the separate configuration guide to select the appropriate layout for your region.

5.5. Adding Prefix or Suffix

The scanner allows for the addition of custom prefixes or suffixes to scanned data. This feature can be configured by scanning specific setup barcodes found in the detailed configuration guide.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning

To maintain optimal scanning performance, keep the scanner's window clean. Use a soft, lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water or a mild, non-abrasive cleaning solution. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could scratch the scanning window.

6.2. Storage

Store the scanner in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. When not in use for extended periods, ensure the battery is partially charged (around 50%) to prolong its lifespan.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Scanner not powering on: Ensure the battery is charged. Connect the scanner to a power source using the USB cable.
  • No data transmitted (Wireless Mode):
    • Verify the USB receiver is securely plugged into the host device.
    • Ensure the scanner is within the wireless range (up to 100m in open areas).
    • Confirm the scanner is paired with the receiver. If not, refer to the configuration guide for pairing instructions.
  • No data transmitted (Wired Mode):
    • Check that the USB cable is firmly connected to both the scanner and the host device.
    • Try a different USB port on your host device.
    • Ensure the USB cable is not damaged.
  • Scanner not reading barcodes:
    • Ensure the barcode is not damaged or poorly printed.
    • Clean the scanner's reading window.
    • Adjust the distance and angle between the scanner and the barcode.
    • Verify the barcode type is supported by the scanner.
  • Incorrect data output:
    • Check the selected keyboard layout. Refer to the configuration guide to set the correct layout.
    • Ensure no prefix or suffix settings are inadvertently active.

If you encounter issues not covered here, please refer to the comprehensive configuration guide or contact customer support.
