Setup
Charging the Speaker
Before first use, fully charge your JBL Charge 5. The speaker features a built-in power bank, allowing you to charge other devices. The battery life is approximately 20 hours on a full charge, depending on usage and volume levels.
- Locate the USB-C charging port on the back of the speaker, protected by a rubber flap.
- Connect the provided USB-C cable to the speaker and a compatible USB power adapter (not included).
- The battery indicator on the front of the speaker will illuminate to show charging status.

Bluetooth Pairing
The JBL Charge 5 uses Bluetooth 5.1 for wireless connectivity.
- Power on the speaker by pressing the power button.
- Press the Bluetooth button on the top of the speaker to enter pairing mode. The Bluetooth indicator will flash.
- On your device (smartphone, tablet, laptop), enable Bluetooth and select "JBL Charge 5" from the list of available devices.
- Once connected, the Bluetooth indicator will remain solid.

Operating Instructions
Basic Controls
- Power Button: Press to turn the speaker on or off.
- Bluetooth Button: Press to enter Bluetooth pairing mode.
- Volume Buttons (+/-): Press to adjust the volume level.
- Play/Pause Button: Press to play or pause audio. Double-press to skip to the next track.
PartyBoost Feature
The PartyBoost feature allows you to connect two JBL PartyBoost-compatible speakers for stereo sound or link multiple JBL PartyBoost-compatible speakers together for a larger sound experience.
- Ensure both speakers are powered on and in Bluetooth pairing mode.
- Press the PartyBoost button on both speakers. They will automatically connect.
JBL Portable App
Download the JBL Portable app for additional features, including a 3-band customizable equalizer (EQ) to personalize your sound preferences. The app also allows for stereo grouping of two Charge 5 speakers.
Maintenance
Waterproof and Dustproof Rating (IP67)
The JBL Charge 5 is IP67 rated, meaning it is fully protected from dust and can withstand immersion in water up to 1 meter (3 feet) for up to 30 minutes. This makes it suitable for use by the pool, at the beach, or in rainy conditions. Ensure the charging port cover is securely closed before exposing the speaker to water or dust.

Cleaning and Storage
- Clean the speaker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- If the speaker has been exposed to saltwater, rinse it with fresh water and allow it to dry completely before charging or storing.
- Store the speaker in a cool, dry place, ideally within the provided gSport Carbon Fiber Hardshell Case, to protect it from physical damage and environmental elements.

Troubleshooting
- No Power: Ensure the speaker is fully charged. Connect it to a power source and check the battery indicator.
- Cannot Pair Bluetooth: Make sure the speaker is in pairing mode (Bluetooth indicator flashing). Turn off and on your device's Bluetooth, then try pairing again. If issues persist, try forgetting the device on your phone and re-pairing.
- No Sound/Low Volume: Check the volume levels on both the speaker and your connected device. Ensure the speaker is not muted.
- Sound Distortion: Reduce the volume on both the speaker and your connected device. Ensure the audio source is of good quality.
- PartyBoost Not Connecting: Ensure both speakers are JBL PartyBoost compatible. Press the PartyBoost button on both speakers simultaneously.
