Key Features
- Interchangeable Microphone Capsules: The H5's modular design allows for swapping out the included XYH-5 X/Y capsule with other Zoom microphone capsules (sold separately) to adapt to various recording scenarios. The XYH-5 provides clear, phase-accurate stereo capture with a shockmount to minimize handling noise.
- 4-Input / 4-Track Recording: Simultaneously record up to four tracks, combining the X/Y capsule with the two XLR/TRS inputs.
- USB Audio Interface: Connect the H5 to a computer via USB to use it as a multi-channel audio interface for recording directly to your DAW.
- Pre-Record Function: Captures two seconds of audio before you press the record button, ensuring you don't miss the beginning of a performance.
- Auto-Record Function: Automatically starts and stops recording when the input signal reaches a set level.
- Backup-Record Function: Automatically records a duplicate set of L/R tracks at a lower gain level, providing a safety track in case the main recording clips.

Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use the provided black cleaning cloth to gently wipe the exterior of the H5. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Storage: Store the H5 in its protective case when not in use to prevent dust and damage.
- Battery Care: Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage. Ensure the rechargeable batteries are charged using the appropriate charger.
Troubleshooting
- Device Not Powering On:
- Check if batteries are inserted correctly with proper polarity.
- Ensure batteries have sufficient charge. Replace or recharge if necessary.
- If using USB power, ensure the USB cable is securely connected to a powered port.
- No Audio Recording:
- Verify that the desired tracks are armed for recording (buttons should be red).
- Check input gain levels; ensure they are not set too low.
- Confirm the microphone capsule or external microphones are securely connected.
- If using external condenser microphones, ensure phantom power is enabled if required.
- Check if the memory card has sufficient free space.
- Poor Audio Quality (Noise/Distortion):
- Adjust input gain levels to prevent clipping (distortion) or low signal-to-noise ratio.
- Ensure the foam windscreen is used with the X/Y capsule to reduce wind noise.
- Check microphone placement relative to the sound source.
- Avoid recording in environments with excessive background noise.
- Difficulty Navigating Menus:
- Refer to the detailed user manual for specific menu navigation instructions. The H5's interface may require some familiarity.
