2. Safety Information & Pre-Installation Notes

Before proceeding with installation, please read and understand all safety precautions and requirements to ensure proper operation and prevent damage.

Important Notes:

  • The installation location should be well-ventilated and protected against wind, rain, and direct sunlight.
  • Water temperature ranges from 34°F-102°F. The system is intended for cold-water use only. Do not run hot water through the system.
  • The system requires a 120-volt power outlet. Never touch the power cord connector when your hands are wet, as this may cause electric shock.
  • Connect the softener to the main water supply before the water heater. It is recommended to have a pre-filter installed before the softener.
  • If you have an electric water heater, please turn off the power during installation to avoid damage.
  • The softener comes with a 1-inch NPT water inlet and outlet.
  • The softener requires a sewage pipe for draining wastewater from the backwash and regeneration.
  • The sewage pipe size should be at least 1/2-inch in diameter and not exceed 20 ft in length. Otherwise, a 3/4-inch sewage pipe is required.
  • The drain hose must be secured, and ensure the sewage pipe always remains open to avoid flooding.
  • The overflow pipe and drain hose must be connected to the sewage pipe separately and must not be combined.
  • Unauthorized modification and disassembly are strictly prohibited and will void the warranty.
  • This product is designed for residential use only. Contact iSpring customer service to inquire about using the product in non-residential settings.

4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of your iSpring WCS45KG Whole House Water Softener System.

Installation Steps:

  1. Position the Softener: Place the softener upright on a flat surface at the desired installation site.
  2. Remove System Cover: Unscrew the two screws on the back of the system cover. Lift the cover and unplug the controller cable to remove the entire cover.
  3. Add Softener Pellets: Remove any protective bubble wrap inside the brine tank. Add softener pellets to the tank until it is approximately 2/3 full.
  4. Install O-rings and Connectors: Install the O-rings to the male connectors and apply silicone grease evenly to the O-rings.
  5. Connect Male Connectors: Pull out the locking clamps on the system head and install the male connectors to the water inlet and outlet ports. Insert the locking clamps back in to secure the connectors.
  6. Connect Quick-Connectors: Connect the 1-inch female NPT quick-connectors to the water inlet and outlet system. Apply plumber's tape to prevent leaks. (Note: Convert fittings are needed if you have a 3/4-inch water line).
  7. Prepare for Water Line Cut: Shut off the main water supply to your home. Turn on the nearest faucet to drain remaining water and air from the pipes. Prepare a bucket to catch any water from the pipe.
  8. Cut Main Water Inlet Pipe: Measure and cut the main water inlet pipe where the softener will be installed.
  9. Connect Softener to Waterline: Connect the water softener to the waterline, paying close attention to the water inlet and outlet direction.
  10. Connect Drain and Overflow Hoses: Cut the included hose into two pieces for the drain and overflow. Insert the drain hose into the drain connector and secure it with a stainless steel clamp. Insert the overflow hose into its connector and secure it with a stainless steel clamp. Ensure both hoses are securely connected to the sewage pipe to prevent flooding.
  11. Attach Controller Cable & Reinstall Cover: Attach the controller cable back to the system and reinstall the cover, securing it with the screws.
  12. Plug in Power Supply: Plug in the power adapter and connect the other end to a 120-volt power outlet. Ensure the system powers on.

5. Operation and Regeneration

The iSpring WCS45KG features an automatic control valve for efficient operation and regeneration.

Initial Startup and Flushing:

  1. Bypass Position: Before turning on the main water supply, ensure the system bypass valves are in the bypass position.
  2. Slowly Turn on Main Water Supply: Slowly turn on the main water supply and let the water run from a faucet for a few minutes until the pipes are free of any foreign material that may have entered during installation.
  3. Unlock Controller: Press and hold the "SETTINGS" button for 3 seconds to unlock the controller interface. The interface will lock automatically after 3 minutes of standby.
  4. Manual Regeneration: Press and hold the "REGEN" button for 3 seconds to enter manual regeneration mode. Press the "REGEN" button again to select "IMMEDIATE REGENERATION". The system will start a default regeneration process (90 minutes of brine, 4 minutes of backwash, 5 minutes of rinse, and 4 minutes of refill).
  5. Unplug Power Supply for Backwash: When "BACKWASH" text stops flashing and starts to count down on the screen, unplug the power supply to allow the system to stay in the backwash state.
  6. Flush Resin Tank: After the air in the resin tank is fully discharged (or when the air exhausting sound stops), fully open the water inlet valve to flush the resin tank until the water is clear. This flushing process should not be less than 10 minutes.
  7. Plug in Power Supply: Plug the power supply back in. The controller will continue to run the remaining regeneration steps and return to the regular mode when finished.
  8. Brine Production Standby: Let the system standby for 24 hours to produce enough concentrated brine in the tank. During this time, set the water inlet valve to bypass position.
  9. Second Regeneration: After 24 hours, reopen the water inlet valve. Start another complete regeneration process (as described in step 3) to ensure the resin meets the requirements for regular use. Do not unplug power, shut off the water, or press any button on the controller during this regeneration process. The controller will automatically return to the regular mode when finished.
  10. Final Setup: Open the water outlet valve to the service position and turn on a faucet. Reinstall the cover screws and let the water run for 5 minutes, ensuring the water is clear before use.

Vacation Mode:

The system includes a vacation mode feature. When activated, it prevents algae growth inside the tank during periods of inactivity, ensuring water quality upon your return.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficiency of your iSpring water softener.

Salt Refilling:

Periodically check the salt level in the brine tank and refill as needed. The system is designed to optimize salt usage, but consistent supply is crucial for effective softening.

Automatic Backwash and Regeneration:

The system's automatic backwash and media regeneration feature significantly reduces manual maintenance. Ensure the system is properly programmed to run these cycles based on your water usage and hardness levels.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your iSpring WCS45KG system, please refer to the user manual for detailed troubleshooting steps or contact customer support.

Common Issues:

  • Hard Water Persists: Check salt levels, ensure regeneration cycles are running, and verify controller settings.
  • Low Water Pressure: Inspect for clogs in the system or pre-filter.
  • System Not Regenerating: Verify power supply, controller settings, and ensure no buttons were pressed during a regeneration cycle.
