Setup

1. Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the walkie-talkie.
  2. Slide the cover downwards or unclip it to open the compartment.
  3. Insert the 6 AA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely until it clicks into place.

2. Charging the Batteries

The SOCOTRAN T90 offers two charging methods:

  • Using the Seat Charger Base: Place the walkie-talkie into the seat charger base. Ensure the charging contacts align. The charging indicator light on the base will illuminate to confirm charging.
  • Using the USB Charging Line: Connect the micro-USB end of the charging cable to the USB port on the side of the walkie-talkie. Connect the other end to a compatible USB power source (e.g., wall adapter, computer USB port).

A full charge typically takes several hours. The battery icon on the display will indicate charging status.

3. Attaching Accessories

  • Belt Clip: Slide the belt clip onto the designated slot on the back of the radio until it locks.
  • Lanyard: Thread the lanyard through the loop located on the top or side of the radio.

Operating Instructions

1. Power On/Off

  • To power on, press and hold the Power/Menu button until the display illuminates.
  • To power off, press and hold the Power/Menu button until the display turns off.

2. Channel Selection

The T90 operates on 22 FRS channels.

  1. Press the Menu button once. The channel number will flash on the display.
  2. Use the Up or Down arrow buttons to select your desired channel (1-22).
  3. Press the Menu button again or wait a few seconds for the selection to be confirmed.

3. Privacy Codes (CTCSS/DCS)

To ensure private and interference-free communication, you can set privacy codes (CTCSS/DCS tones). Refer to the on-screen menu options for detailed instructions on setting these codes. Both radios must be on the same channel and privacy code to communicate.

4. Transmitting and Receiving

  • To transmit, press and hold the PTT (Push-to-Talk) button located on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone.
  • Release the PTT button to receive messages.

5. NOAA Weather Scan & Alert

The T90 can scan 11 NOAA weather channels and provide alerts for severe weather conditions.

  1. To activate NOAA Weather Scan, press the dedicated Mon/Scan button until the NOAA icon appears. The radio will automatically scan for the strongest weather channel.
  2. When an alert is issued, the radio will sound an alarm and display the alert information.
  3. To exit NOAA Weather Scan, press the Mon/Scan button again.

6. SOS Emergency Function

The T90 includes an SOS emergency button for critical situations.

  • With the walkie-talkie powered on, press and hold the red SOS button for 3 seconds.
  • The red LED light will activate, emitting an SOS signal.

7. Flashlight

The integrated flashlight provides illumination in low-light conditions.

  • Press the LAMP button to turn the flashlight on.
  • Press the LAMP button again to turn it off.

8. VOX (Voice Operated Exchange)

The VOX feature allows for hands-free operation. When activated, the radio will transmit automatically when it detects your voice.

  1. Access the menu and navigate to the VOX setting.
  2. Select the desired VOX sensitivity level (higher levels require less voice input to activate).
  3. Exit the menu to enable VOX.

Waterproof and Floating Feature

The SOCOTRAN T90 is rated IP67, providing complete protection against dust and allowing for immersion in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. Additionally, the walkie-talkie is designed to float if dropped in water, and a white LED light will automatically activate to help locate it in dark conditions.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning

  • After exposure to saltwater, rinse the radio with fresh water and dry thoroughly.
