5. Setup
5.1 Battery Installation
- Locate the battery cover at the top end of the detector (refer to Image 4.1).
- Twist the battery cover counter-clockwise to open it.
- Insert one new 9V alkaline battery, ensuring the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals align correctly with the markings inside the compartment.
- Replace the battery cover and twist it clockwise until securely fastened.
5.2 Attaching Accessories
- Belt Holster: Slide the detector into the provided belt holster for secure carrying on your belt.
- Hanging Wire (Lanyard): Attach the hanging wire to the designated hook-up point on the detector (refer to Image 4.1) to prevent accidental drops.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Powering On/Off
- To power on the device, press and hold the "Mode Switching / Power Switch" button (refer to Image 4.1) for approximately 2 seconds. The LCD display will illuminate.
- To power off the device, press and hold the same button for approximately 2 seconds until the display turns off.
6.2 Understanding the LCD Display
The LCD display provides important operational information:
- Battery Level: Indicates the remaining battery charge. Replace the battery when the indicator is low.
- Signal Strength: Displays the proximity and strength of detected metal. The closer the detector is to a metal object, the stronger the signal displayed.
- Alarm Mode: Shows the currently selected alarm mode (vibration, buzzing, or both).
6.3 Switching Alarm Modes
While the device is powered on, short press the "Mode Switching / Power Switch" button to cycle through the three available alarm modes:
- Vibration (Silent): The detector will vibrate when metal is detected.
- Buzzing: The detector will emit an audible buzz when metal is detected.
- Vibration + Buzzing: The detector will both vibrate and buzz when metal is detected.
6.4 Metal Detection Technique
The Natotinorch M1 uses 360° side-scan detection and a pinpoint tip for accurate target location.
- Scanning: Hold the detector with the detection area (the orange tip) parallel to the surface you are scanning. Move the detector slowly and steadily over the area.
- Target Indication: When metal is detected, the device will activate the selected alarm mode (vibration, buzzing, or both) and the signal strength indicator on the LCD will increase. The closer you are to the metal, the stronger the signal.
- Pinpointing: Once a general area is identified, use the pinpoint tip of the detector to narrow down the exact location of the metal object.
- Effective Detection Distance: The effective detection distance is approximately 10 cm (4 inches), depending on the size and type of metal object.

Image 6.2: Examples of metal objects that can be detected, including coins, jewelry, and a gold lump.
Image 6.3: Various applications for the metal detector, such as locating pipelines, archaeological artifacts, buried cables, and gold.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: After use, especially in dirty or wet conditions, wipe the detector with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Battery Replacement: Replace the 9V alkaline battery when the LCD display indicates a low battery level to ensure consistent performance.
- Water Exposure: While the lower part is water-resistant, avoid submerging the entire device, particularly the display screen and upper section. If the upper part gets wet, dry it immediately.
- Storage: Store the detector in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove the battery if storing for extended periods.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Detector does not power on. | Battery is dead or incorrectly installed. | Check battery polarity. Replace with a new 9V alkaline battery. |
| Weak or inconsistent detection. | Low battery; target too deep or too small; environmental interference. | Replace battery. Ensure target is within 10 cm detection range. Test in a different area. |
| False signals or constant alarm. | Detector is too close to metal objects (e.g., belt buckle, phone); electromagnetic interference. | Move away from personal metal items. Test in an open area away from electrical devices. |
| LCD display is dim or flickering. | Low battery. | Replace with a new 9V alkaline battery. |
