1. Important Safety Instructions

3. Setup and Assembly

Follow these steps to assemble your BLACK+DECKER BDXURV309G vacuum cleaner before first use.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Powering On/Off

• Plug the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet.
• Step on the power pedal located at the base of the vacuum to turn it on.
• To turn off, step on the power pedal again and unplug the unit from the outlet.

4.2 Adjusting Carpet Height Settings

The vacuum features 5-position carpet height settings to optimize cleaning performance on different floor types.

1. Locate the height adjustment dial on the front of the vacuum's powerhead.
2. Rotate the dial to select the appropriate setting:
• Low Settings: For bare floors, low pile carpets, and rugs.
• Medium Settings: For medium pile carpets.
• High Settings: For high pile and shag carpets.
3. Adjust the setting as needed when moving between different floor surfaces.

4.3 Using Attachments

1. Accessing the Hose: Detach the hose from its storage clip on the back of the vacuum.
2. Attaching Tools: Connect the desired tool (extension wand, crevice tool, pet small brush, or pet rotating brush) directly to the end of the hose. Ensure a secure fit.
3. Extension Wand: Use for reaching high areas, ceilings, or under furniture.
4. Crevice Tool: Ideal for narrow spaces, corners, and edges.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your vacuum cleaner.

5.1 Emptying the Dust Bin

The 2-liter bagless dust bin should be emptied regularly, especially when debris reaches the 'MAX' fill line.

1. Ensure the vacuum is unplugged from the power outlet.
2. Press the dust bin release button and lift the dust bin away from the vacuum body.
3. Position the dust bin over a trash receptacle.
4. Press the bottom release latch to open the dust bin and empty its contents.
5. Close the dust bin bottom securely and reattach the dust bin to the vacuum until it clicks into place.

5.2 Cleaning the HEPA Filter

The Anti-Allergen HEPA filter is washable and should be cleaned periodically to maintain suction and filtration efficiency.

1. Unplug the vacuum cleaner.
2. Remove the dust bin as described in Section 5.1.
3. Twist and pull out the HEPA filter from the top of the dust bin.
4. Tap the filter gently over a trash can to remove loose dirt.
5. Rinse the filter under cool running water until the water runs clear. Do not use detergent.
6. Allow the filter to air dry completely for at least 24 hours before reinserting. Do not use a dryer or heat gun.
7. Once dry, reinsert the filter into the dust bin and reattach the dust bin to the vacuum.

5.3 Cleaning the Brush Roll

Periodically inspect and clean the brush roll to remove tangled hair or debris.

1. Ensure the vacuum is unplugged.
2. Flip the vacuum over to access the brush roll.
3. Use scissors to carefully cut away any hair or threads wrapped around the brush roll.
4. Remove any debris from the brush roll and its housing.
5. Ensure the brush roll spins freely before returning the vacuum to an upright position.
