Setup

Before using your HAGBOU Musubi Maker Press for the first time, wash all parts (mold and presser) with warm water and a mild dish soap. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely. This ensures cleanliness and removes any manufacturing residues.

Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to create perfectly formed musubi or rice balls:

  1. Prepare the Mold: Place the musubi mold on a flat, stable surface. Set the press plate aside for now.
  2. Add First Layer of Rice: Using the provided rice paddle, add a small amount of cooked rice into the bottom of the mold.
  3. Press the Rice: Insert the press plate into the mold and gently press down to compact the rice evenly.
  4. Add Fillings (Optional): If making musubi, place your desired filling (e.g., cooked Spam, teriyaki chicken) on top of the first rice layer.
  5. Add Second Layer of Rice: Add another layer of rice on top of the filling. Press again with the press plate to ensure it is compact.
  6. Remove the Mold: Carefully lift the musubi mold upwards, leaving the compacted rice and filling on the surface.
  7. Final Press: Use the press plate to gently push down on the rice block one last time to ensure it holds its shape.
  8. Serve: Your musubi or rice ball is now ready. You can wrap it with nori (seaweed) if desired.

Maintenance and Cleaning

The HAGBOU Musubi Maker Press is designed for easy cleaning. It is dishwasher safe, but hand washing is recommended to prolong the life of the product.

  • Hand Washing: Wash with warm, soapy water using a soft sponge. Rinse thoroughly and air dry.
  • Dishwasher: Place on the top rack of your dishwasher. Use a mild detergent.
  • Ensure all rice residue is removed to prevent bacterial growth.

Troubleshooting

  • Rice sticking to the mold: Ensure the mold is slightly damp before adding rice. You can also lightly oil the inside of the mold. Using freshly cooked, warm rice also helps.
  • Musubi falling apart: Ensure the rice is adequately compacted. Press firmly but not excessively. The type of rice (e.g., short-grain sushi rice) also affects stickiness.
  • Uneven layers: Distribute rice and fillings evenly before pressing each layer.
