Setup and Connections

Follow these steps to set up your HP USB-C Dock G5 and connect your devices.

1. Unpacking and Initial Placement

Carefully remove the docking station and all accessories from its packaging. Place the dock on a stable, flat surface near your laptop and external devices. Its compact design allows it to fit in small spaces, measuring approximately 4.8 x 4.8 x 1.77 inches.

2. Connecting to Your Laptop

The HP USB-C Dock G5 connects to your laptop using a single USB-C cable. This cable provides power, data transfer, and video output. Ensure your laptop's USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode for full functionality. Thunderbolt-enabled notebooks will operate at USB-C speeds.

  1. Connect the provided USB-C cable from the dock to the USB-C port on your laptop.
  2. Connect the AC power adapter to the dock's AC Power Connection port and then to a wall outlet.

3. Connecting Peripherals and Displays

The dock offers a variety of ports for connecting your external devices. Refer to the port diagram below for identification.

  • USB-A Ports: Connect your mouse, keyboard, webcam, and other USB-A devices. The dock features multiple USB-A 3.0 ports.
  • USB-C Ports: Additional USB-C ports are available for data transfer and power out (15W).
  • DisplayPort™ 1.4 and HDMI 2.0: Connect up to three external displays simultaneously. Use the DisplayPort or HDMI ports as needed.
  • RJ-45 (Ethernet) Port: For a stable wired network connection.
  • Audio Jack: Connect headphones or external speakers.
  • Standard Lock Slot: For physical security of the dock.

Operating the Dock

Once connected, the HP USB-C Dock G5 provides seamless integration with your laptop and connected devices.

Power Button Functionality

The power button on the dock can be used to turn on or wake your system. This feature is primarily supported on HP or HP-supported notebooks.

Display Configuration

You can extend or duplicate your laptop's display across up to three external monitors connected to the dock. Configure display settings through your operating system's display preferences.

Advanced Network Manageability

The dock includes features for secure and remote management, particularly useful in corporate environments. These features function best with HP or HP-supported notebooks.

  • PXE Boot: Remotely set up devices via a network interface.
  • MAC Address Pass-Through: Easily identify and track your fleet via the dock's LAN connection.
  • Wake-on-LAN: Push system updates even when the PC is off or in sleep mode (S4/S5).

    Note that certain advanced features like power button functionality, MAC Address Pass-Through, and Wake-on-LAN may only function fully on HP or HP-supported notebooks. HP does not provide Ethernet and audio drivers on Mac PCs.
