4.2. Setup via TP-Link Tether App (Recommended)
- Download the TP-Link Tether app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). You can find more information about the app here.
- Open the Tether app and log in with your TP-Link ID. If you don't have one, create one.
- Tap the + icon in the top right corner and select Range Extender.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your RE550 to your existing Wi-Fi network.

4.3. Setup via Web Browser
- Plug the extender into a power outlet near your router.
- Connect your computer or mobile device to the extender's Wi-Fi network (e.g., "TP-Link_Extender").
- Open a web browser and type http://tplinkrepeater.net or http://192.168.0.254 in the address bar.
- Create a login password.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to select your host Wi-Fi network and extend it.
5. Operating the Extender
Once set up, the RE550 will automatically extend your Wi-Fi signal. The LED indicators on the front of the device provide status information:
- Signal LED: Indicates the strength of the signal received from your router. A white light indicates a strong connection, while a red light suggests the extender is too far from the router.
- 2.4GHz/5GHz LEDs: Indicate whether the respective Wi-Fi bands are active.
- Power LED: Indicates if the extender is powered on.
For optimal performance, ensure the Signal LED is white. If it's red, try moving the extender closer to your main router.

6. EasyMesh Compatibility
The RE550 is EasyMesh-compatible, allowing it to seamlessly integrate with any EasyMesh-compatible router or mesh Wi-Fi system. This creates a unified network under a single Wi-Fi name, enabling smart roaming for your devices as you move throughout your home. This means your devices will automatically connect to the strongest Wi-Fi signal without manual switching, ensuring uninterrupted coverage and optimal performance.

7. Maintenance
- Firmware Updates: Regularly check for and install firmware updates via the Tether app or web interface to ensure optimal performance and security.
- Cleaning: Keep the device clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners.
- Ventilation: Ensure the extender is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Do not block the ventilation holes.
- Power Cycle: If you experience connectivity issues, try power cycling the extender (unplug it, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in).
8. Troubleshooting
- No Internet Access:
- Check the Signal LED on the extender. If it's red, move the extender closer to your router.
- Ensure your main router has internet access.
- Restart both your router and the extender.
- Slow Speeds:
- While extenders improve coverage, they do not directly increase internet speed. Speed is limited by your main router and ISP.
- Ensure the extender is placed in an optimal location (white Signal LED).
- Minimize interference from other electronic devices.
- If using the 5GHz band, ensure your devices support it and are within optimal range, as 5GHz has shorter range but higher speed.
- Cannot Connect to Extender's Wi-Fi:
- Verify you are selecting the correct extended network name (usually your router's SSID with "_EXT" appended).
- Ensure you are using the correct Wi-Fi password.
- Try resetting the extender to factory defaults (press the Reset button for 1 second) and reconfigure it.
