Setup and Installation
1. Measure Your Opening
Before installation, accurately measure the width of the opening where you intend to install the gate. The PawHut Pet Gate is designed to fit openings from 74 cm to 147.5 cm using the included extensions. Select the appropriate extension panels to match your opening width.
Image: A visual guide demonstrating how different extension panels combine with the main gate to achieve various widths, such as 74-80cm, 91.5-97.5cm, 104-111cm, 121.5-128cm, and 141.5-147.5cm.
2. Installation Types: Pressure Mount vs. Drill Mount
The gate can be installed using either a pressure-mount system or a drill-mount system for added security, especially when used at the top of stairs. For stair installations, using expansion screws (drill-mount) is recommended.
Pressure Mount: Ideal for doorways and hallways. The gate is held in place by pressure against the walls using adjustable bolts.
Drill Mount: Provides maximum security. Requires drilling small holes into the wall or door frame to secure wall cups with screws and anchors.
Image: Two diagrams showing the installation methods. The top diagram illustrates pressure mounting, where an adjustable bolt is tightened against the wall. The bottom diagram shows drill mounting, where a wall cup is secured with screws and anchors after drilling into the wall.
General Assembly Steps:
Unpack all components and ensure nothing is missing.
Attach the appropriate extension panels to the main gate unit if your opening requires them.
Insert the adjustable pressure bolts into the corners of the gate.
Position the gate in the desired opening.
For pressure mount, rotate the adjustment wheels on the bolts until the gate is firmly secured against the walls. Ensure the gap between the gate frame and the locking mechanism is minimal but allows for smooth operation.
For drill mount, mark the positions for the wall cups, drill pilot holes, insert wall anchors, and secure the wall cups with screws. Then, insert the adjustable pressure bolts into the wall cups and tighten.
Test the gate's stability and locking mechanism before allowing pets near it.
Operating the Pet Gate
Automatic Closing Feature
The gate door is designed for convenience and safety:
If the door is opened between 30° and 90°, it will automatically close and lock.
If the door is opened beyond 90°, it will remain open, providing easy passage.
Image: A top-down view illustrating the gate's automatic closing feature. It shows that if the gate is opened between 30 and 90 degrees, it will close automatically. If opened beyond 90 degrees, it will stay open.
Double Locking Mechanism
The gate features a double locking system for enhanced security, preventing pets from easily opening it. To open the gate:
Slide the two lower locks simultaneously.
Lift the gate handle to disengage the main lock.
Push or pull the gate open.
Image: Two detailed images. The left image shows how to operate the main lock with one hand by pressing and lifting the button. The right image highlights the two lower rotation locks that allow the door to rotate in either direction or a specific direction.
One-Hand Operation
The main locking mechanism is designed for convenient one-hand operation, allowing you to open the gate while carrying items or holding your pet.
Image: Two images demonstrating one-hand operation. The left image shows a hand pressing and lifting the button on the gate handle. The right image shows a hand sliding the lower locks to open the gate.
Maintenance
Cleaning: Wipe the gate regularly with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the finish.
Inspection: Periodically check all connections, bolts, and locking mechanisms to ensure they are secure and functioning correctly. Tighten any loose bolts.
Lubrication: If the gate hinges become stiff, apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to ensure smooth operation.
Storage: If storing the gate for an extended period, disassemble it carefully and store it in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
Gate does not close automatically: Ensure the gate is installed correctly and is level. Check for any obstructions preventing the door from swinging freely. The automatic closing feature works between 30° and 90° of opening.
Gate feels loose or unstable: Re-tighten all adjustable pressure bolts. If using the pressure mount, ensure the wall cups are firmly against the wall. For drill-mount, check that screws and anchors are secure.
Gate is difficult to open/close: Check for any misalignment during installation. Ensure the gap between the gate frame and the locking mechanism is appropriate. Lubricate hinges if necessary.
Gap at the bottom of the gate: A small gap at the bottom is normal for pressure-mounted gates to allow for the pressure mechanism. Ensure it is not large enough for your pet to pass through.
