4. Operating Instructions

The ECO-WORTHY Smart Battery Charger operates automatically, but understanding its modes and display is crucial for optimal use.

4.1 Mode Selection

After connecting the charger to the battery and AC power, press the MODE button to cycle through the available charging modes. The charger will automatically detect the battery type and suggest a mode, but you can manually select if needed.

Table showing different charging modes: 12V STD, 6V STD, 12V AGM, 12V LFP, 12V DC Adapter, Low Temperature Charging Mode, Fault, Bad Battery

Figure 4.1: Multi-Mode Selection Table

  • 12V STD: Standard mode for 12V Lead-acid batteries.
  • 12V AGM: Mode for 12V AGM batteries.
  • 12V LFP (LiFePO4): Mode specifically for 12V Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries. This mode includes a 0V activation function for deeply discharged LiFePO4 batteries.
  • Low Temperature Mode: For charging Lead Acid (Standard & AGM) batteries in cold environments. Indicated by a snowflake icon.
  • DC Adapter Mode: The charger can function as a 12V 6A (Max 72W) DC adapter.

4.2 LCD Display Interpretation

The LCD screen provides vital information during charging:

  • Voltage (V): Displays the current battery voltage.
  • Current (A): Shows the charging current.
  • Battery Power Indicator: A bar graph indicating the estimated battery charge level (20%-100%).
  • Mode Indicator: Shows the currently selected charging mode (STD, AGM, LI, DC, 6V).
  • Error Indicator (Triangle with Exclamation): Appears if an error is detected (e.g., reverse polarity, short circuit, bad battery).
  • Low Temperature Indicator (Snowflake): Indicates Low Temperature Charging Mode is active.
  • BAT LOW / BAD BAT: Indicates a low battery voltage or a potentially defective battery.

4.3 Charging Process (Multi-Stage)

The charger employs a multi-stage charging process to optimize battery health and longevity:

  1. PMC Activation: Initial pulse mode charging for deeply discharged batteries.
  2. Soft Start Phase: Helps the battery recover prior to bulk charge.
  3. Bulk Charge Phase: Provides a constant current for the battery to reach approximately 80% of its capacity.
  4. Absorption Phase: Provides constant voltage and intelligently reduces current until the battery reaches 100% charge.
  5. Full Charge (Float/Maintenance): Charging is complete, and the charger maintains the battery at full capacity, preventing self-discharge. The battery can be left safely on the charger indefinitely.

4.4 LiFePO4 0V Activation

This charger features a unique 0V activation function specifically for LiFePO4 batteries. If a LiFePO4 battery's Battery Management System (BMS) has triggered protection due to deep discharge (resulting in 0V at the terminals), this charger can attempt to reactivate it, unlike many standard chargers.

4.5 Charging Efficiency and Time

The charging time depends on the battery's capacity (Ah) and its current state of charge. Below is an approximate guide for charging times:

Chart showing estimated charging times for different battery capacities: 5AH (1 hour), 10AH (2 hours), 12AH (2.4 hours), 20AH (4 hours), 30AH (6 hours), 50AH (10 hours).

5. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable operation of your charger.

  • Cleaning: Disconnect the charger from AC power and the battery before cleaning. Wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasives.
  • Cable Inspection: Regularly inspect the input and output cables for any signs of damage, cuts, or fraying. Do not use the charger if cables are damaged.
  • Storage: Store the charger in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your ECO-WORTHY Smart Battery Charger, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Charger does not turn on.No AC power; Faulty outlet; Damaged power cord.Check AC power connection; Test outlet with another device; Inspect power cord for damage.
Charger connected but not charging.Incorrect battery connection (reverse polarity); Battery is fully charged; Battery is severely damaged/dead; Incorrect mode selected.Verify correct polarity (+ to +, - to -); Check LCD display for "FULL" or "Good" indicator; If "BAD BAT" is displayed, the battery may need replacement; Ensure correct battery type mode is selected.
LCD displays "Error" or "BAD BAT".Reverse polarity; Short circuit; Battery fault (low voltage, vulcanization, loss of capacity).Disconnect and re-connect with correct polarity; Check for short circuits in cables/connections; If battery is detected as "BAD BAT", it may be beyond repair and require replacement.
Charger gets warm during operation.Normal operation; Poor ventilation. Some warmth is normal. Ensure the charger is in a well-ventilated area and not covered. If excessively hot, disconnect immediately and contact support.

If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact ECO-WORTHY customer support.
