1. Introduction

The Hunter WAND Smart WiFi Module is designed to upgrade your Hunter X2 sprinkler controller, enabling smart control through the Hydrawise app. This module facilitates remote scheduling, performance monitoring, and zone adjustments from your smartphone, tablet, or computer. It supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n, 20 MHz), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Direct, and WPS setup methods. The WAND module allows for weather-based watering adjustments, promoting water conservation and landscape health.

2. Setup and Installation

The WAND module is designed for easy plug-in installation into compatible Hunter X2 controllers. Ensure your X2 controller was manufactured after December 2022 for compatibility. The build date is typically found inside the wiring compartment.

2.1 Physical Installation

1. Open the front cover of your Hunter X2 sprinkler controller.
2. Locate the dedicated slot on the side of the controller for the WAND module. This slot is typically covered by a small, removable piece.
3. Gently remove the placeholder piece from the slot.
4. Insert the WAND module into the slot, ensuring it is fully seated. It should fit snugly without requiring excessive force.
5. Close the front cover of the X2 controller.

2.2 Wi-Fi Connection via Hydrawise App

Once the WAND module is physically installed, you will connect it to your Wi-Fi network using the Hydrawise app.

1. Download the Hydrawise Irrigation app from your device's app store (available on App Store and Google Play).
2. Create a Hydrawise account or log in if you already have one.
3. In the app, navigate to 'Controller Settings'.
4. Look for the 'Connect to Wi-Fi' option.
5. Follow the on-screen prompts to select your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network and enter your password. The WAND module is not compatible with 5GHz networks.
6. The app will guide you through the connection process, which may involve pressing the button on the WAND module.
7. Once connected, the X2 controller's display will show 'ONLINE', and the WAND module's LED will turn solid green.

3. Operating the Hunter WAND Module

The WAND module integrates your X2 controller with the Hydrawise cloud-based platform, allowing for advanced irrigation management.

3.1 Remote Scheduling and Programs

• Use the Hydrawise app to create and manage watering programs. You can set up to 3 independent programs with 6 start times each and 24-hour max run times.
• Assign specific zones to different programs and define watering durations.
• The app allows you to name zones and add descriptive icons for easier management.

3.2 Weather-Based Watering (Hydrawise Predictive Watering)

Hydrawise automatically adjusts watering schedules based on local weather forecasts, helping to conserve water and maintain healthy landscapes.

• It can automatically skip watering cycles if rain is forecasted or if temperatures are too low/high, preventing overwatering and water waste.
• You can customize weather-based watering triggers within the app.

• You can manually start or stop watering for individual zones or programs directly from the Hydrawise app.
• In the event of Wi-Fi loss, your mobile device can function as a manual remote, allowing uninterrupted access to your system.
• The WAND module sends real-time status alerts and fault diagnostics to your app, notifying you of wiring issues or controller errors to help prevent landscape damage.

4. Maintenance

The Hunter WAND Smart WiFi Module requires minimal maintenance. Ensure the module remains securely seated in the X2 controller. Regularly check the Hydrawise app for system alerts or notifications that may indicate a need for attention. Keep the module clean and free from dust or debris.

5.1 Wi-Fi Connectivity Issues

• Module Not Connecting: Ensure your Wi-Fi network is 2.4GHz. The WAND module is not compatible with 5GHz networks.
• Weak Signal: Verify strong Wi-Fi signal strength at the controller's location. If the signal is weak, consider relocating your Wi-Fi router or using a Wi-Fi extender.
