3. Operating Considerations
For optimal performance of your permanent match, pay attention to the wick length and fuel level.
3.1 Wick Length
The wick should be of an appropriate length for consistent ignition. Refer to the diagram below for visual guidance:
- Normal: The wick extends slightly beyond the metal casing, allowing for proper fuel exposure and ignition.
- Too Long: An excessively long wick can lead to an unstable flame or difficulty in striking.
- Too Short: A wick that is too short may not absorb enough fuel or may not make proper contact with the flint for ignition.
3.2 Fuel Level
Maintaining the correct fuel level is crucial for reliable operation. Use kerosene as the fuel type.
- Fuel is Normal: The wick is saturated with fuel, but not excessively dripping.
- Too Little Fuel: The wick appears dry or only partially saturated, leading to poor ignition or a weak flame.
- Too Much Fuel: Excessive fuel can cause dripping, a larger-than-desired flame, or difficulty in ignition due to oversaturation.

4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable performance of your permanent match lighter.
- Wick Inspection: Periodically check the wick for fraying or excessive charring. Replace the wick if it appears damaged or too short.
- Flint Rod Check: Ensure the flint rod is not excessively worn. Replace it when it no longer produces sufficient sparks.
- Rubber Ring Integrity: Inspect the "O"-sealed rubber rings for cracks or wear. Replace them to maintain the waterproof seal.
- Fuel Refill: Refill the lighter with kerosene as needed, ensuring not to overfill.
- Cleaning: Keep the striking surface and the match rod clean from debris or carbon buildup.
5. Troubleshooting
If your permanent match is not functioning correctly, consider the following common issues and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Match does not light or produces weak flame. | Wick is too short or worn out. Insufficient fuel. Flint rod is worn. | Replace the wick (refer to Section 2.1). Refill with kerosene. Replace the flint rod (refer to Section 2.2). |
| Flame is too large or unstable. | Wick is too long. Too much fuel. | Adjust wick length (refer to Section 3.1). Reduce fuel level if overfilled. |
| Lighter leaks fuel or loses waterproof seal. | Damaged or worn "O"-sealed rubber ring. | Replace the "O"-sealed rubber ring (refer to Section 2.3). |
| Difficulty striking a spark. | Worn flint rod. Dirty striking surface. | Replace the flint rod (refer to Section 2.2). Clean the striking surface. |
