LifeStraw Personal Water Filter Instruction Manual

Model: Personal

Introduction

The LifeStraw Personal Water Filter is a compact and lightweight water purification device designed for outdoor enthusiasts, travelers, and emergency preparedness. It effectively removes bacteria, parasites, and microplastics from contaminated water sources, providing safe drinking water on the go.

This manual provides essential information on how to properly set up, operate, and maintain your LifeStraw Personal Water Filter to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Product Features

  • Advanced Filtration: Utilizes activated carbon filters to remove impurities, including 99.9999% of bacteria, 99.9% of parasites, and 99.9% of microplastics.
  • Portable Design: Compact and lightweight, making it easy to carry in a backpack or emergency kit.
  • Easy to Use: Simply sip directly from the water source through the filter.
  • Long-lasting: Filters up to 1,000 liters (264 gallons) of contaminated water.
  • Versatile: Ideal for hiking, camping, travel, and emergency situations.

Setup

  1. Initial Priming: Before first use, remove the caps from both ends of the LifeStraw. Submerge the bottom end (intake) in water for 10-20 seconds to allow the filter to absorb water and become saturated. This primes the filter for optimal flow.
  2. First Sips: After priming, take 5 quick sips to draw water through the filter. Spit out the first few mouthfuls of water to ensure any loose carbon particles are flushed out.
  3. Ready for Use: Your LifeStraw is now ready to provide safe drinking water.

Operating Instructions

  1. Locate Water Source: Find a natural water source such as a river, stream, or lake.
  2. Remove Caps: Take off the protective caps from both ends of the LifeStraw.
  3. Submerge Intake: Place the bottom end (intake) of the LifeStraw directly into the water source. Ensure the water level is sufficient to cover the intake.
  4. Sip Water: Place the mouthpiece into your mouth and sip slowly and steadily. The water will pass through the filter, removing contaminants before reaching your mouth.
  5. After Drinking: After each use, blow a puff of air back through the mouthpiece to clear any remaining water and flush the filter. This helps prevent clogging and keeps the filter clean.

Maintenance

  • Backwashing: After each use, or if flow rate decreases, perform backwashing. Blow air forcefully through the mouthpiece to dislodge any trapped particles from the filter membrane.
  • Storage: After backwashing, allow the LifeStraw to air dry completely before replacing the caps. Store in a cool, dry place.
  • Avoid Freezing: Do not allow the LifeStraw to freeze once it has been used and contains water, as this can damage the filter membrane. If freezing is unavoidable, store it in a sealed bag and allow it to thaw completely before use. Test the flow rate before drinking.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Low water flowFilter is clogged with sediment or air bubbles.Perform backwashing by blowing forcefully through the mouthpiece. Ensure the filter is fully primed.
No water flowFilter is severely clogged or not properly primed.Repeat priming process. If still no flow, the filter may have reached its lifespan or is damaged.
