Setup

1. Powering On/Off

To power on the iDSD Diablo, rotate the volume knob clockwise from the 'Off' position. The Audio Format LED will illuminate. To power off, rotate the volume knob fully counter-clockwise until it clicks into the 'Off' position.

2. Connecting to a Source Device

The iDSD Diablo supports two main digital audio inputs:

  • USB Input (USB-A): Use the provided USB-A to USB-B cable to connect your source device (e.g., computer, smartphone) to the USB Input port on the rear panel.
  • S/PDIF Input: For coaxial or optical digital audio sources, connect your cable to the S/PDIF Input port. Use the included optical adapter if connecting an optical cable.

3. Connecting Headphones

Connect your headphones to either the 6.3mm unbalanced output or the 4.4mm balanced output on the front panel. If your headphones have a 3.5mm plug, use the included 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapter for the unbalanced output.

4. Charging the Battery

Connect the iPower 5V AC/DC adapter to the USB Power (USB-C) port on the rear panel. The LED indicator near the USB Power port will show charging status. A full charge can provide up to 12 hours of playback, depending on the selected power mode and headphone impedance.

Operating Modes

The iDSD Diablo features a three-position power mode switch on the front panel to optimize output for different headphone types:

  • Eco Mode: Lowest power output, ideal for highly sensitive In-Ear Monitors (IEMs) to prevent excessive volume and preserve battery life.
  • Normal Mode: Medium power output, suitable for most headphones.
  • Turbo Mode: Highest power output, designed for demanding, high-impedance headphones that require significant power to drive effectively.

Audio Format LED Indicator

The LED on the front panel indicates the audio format and sampling frequency being received by the iDSD Diablo:

LED ColorMode
GreenPCM 44/48/88/96kHz
YellowPCM 176/192kHz
CyanPCM 352/384kHz
BlueDSD64/128

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your iDSD Diablo, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the unit in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use the provided iTraveller case for protection during transport.
  • Battery Care: For optimal battery life, avoid fully discharging the unit frequently. Charge it regularly, even if not in use for extended periods.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your iDSD Diablo, refer to the following common solutions:

  • Device shuts down unexpectedly in Turbo mode: This can occur when driving very demanding headphones at high volumes on battery power. If this happens, connect the unit to the USB-C power input to reset it. Consider using Normal or Eco mode for less demanding headphones or when battery power is critical.
  • No sound or distorted sound:
    • Ensure the unit is powered on and the volume is adjusted appropriately.
    • Check all cable connections (source, headphones, power) are secure.
    • Verify the correct input source is selected on your device.
    • Try a different power mode (Eco, Normal, Turbo) to see if it resolves the issue.
  • Device not recognized by computer:
    • Ensure the USB audio input cable is securely connected to both the iDSD Diablo and your computer.
    • Try a different USB port on your computer.
    • Restart your computer and the iDSD Diablo.
    • Check your computer's audio settings to ensure the iDSD Diablo is selected as the output device.
