Setup and Installation
The HC6000-PRO is designed for quick and easy installation. Refer to the official installation video and the detailed PDF manual for complete instructions.
Video 1: HC6000 PRO Installation Instructions. This video provides a visual guide to setting up your HydroCheck unit.
Installation Steps:
- Mount the Controller: Secure the HC6000-PRO controller to a wall near a power outlet using the supplied screws. Ensure sufficient wire length for sensor placement.
- Connect Power: Plug the 3-foot power cord into the left side of the controller and then into a standard 110V AC outlet.
- Secure Sensors (Sump Pump): Use the provided tie-wraps to secure the black and red sensors to the sump pump's discharge pipe. The black sensor's tip determines the pump's OFF level, and the red sensor's tip determines the pump's ON level. Ensure the black sensor is positioned so the pump can drop the water level below its tip to prevent continuous running. The red sensor should be mounted as high as possible to maximize pump run time.
- Secure Sensors (Utility Pump): For utility pumps, the sensors are strapped directly to the pump itself. The tip of the lower sensor must be above the minimum water level the pump can reach, and the tip of the red sensor should be above the minimum water depth the pump requires to develop suction.
- Connect Pump: Plug your sump or utility pump into the outlet on the HC6000-PRO controller.

Operation
The HC6000-PRO utilizes two sensors: a black sensor and a red sensor. The black sensor determines the water level at which the pump turns OFF, while the red sensor determines the water level at which the pump turns ON.
Pump and Sensor Operation:
- When the water level rises and makes contact with the tip of the red sensor, the HC6000-PRO activates the pump, initiating the draining process.
- As the water level drops and falls just below the tip of the black sensor, the HC6000-PRO deactivates the pump.
Using the Digital Display:
The integrated LCD display provides real-time information about your sump pump's performance and status. Press the 'Smart Button' on the front of the controller to cycle through various readouts:
- Pump On Time: Displays the duration the pump has been running.
- Pump Amps: Shows the current draw of the pump motor.
- Total Cycles: Counts the total number of pump cycles since installation.
- Cycles Since Reset: Counts cycles since the last manual reset.
- Max/Min Amps: Records the maximum and minimum amperage drawn by the pump.
- Max/Min Cycle Time: Records the longest and shortest pump run times.
- Fill Time/Cycle (Last/Current): Shows the time it took for the pit to fill during the last cycle and the current cycle.
- Active Alarms: Displays any currently active alarms.
- Silenced/Muted/Disabled Alarms: Shows the status of various alarm types.
Initiating a Self-Test:
To perform a self-test, press the red button located on the side of the control module. After three beeps, the unit will enter self-test mode. It will first check the status of the sensors and indicate if cleaning is required. Subsequently, it will run the pump to verify motor current flow, confirming the pump's connection. The display will then indicate if the self-test passed or failed, sounding an alarm if it failed.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the optimal performance and longevity of your HydroCheck HC6000-PRO and connected sump pump.
- Sensor Cleaning: The unit will alert you if the sensors require cleaning (e.g., "Dirty Sensors" alarm). Periodically inspect the black and red sensors for any buildup of debris, sediment, or mineral deposits. Clean them gently with a soft brush and clean water to ensure accurate water level detection.
- Ground Wire Inspection: If a ground wire is used (especially in plastic pits or with non-conductive water), periodically check its connection to the controller's ground screw and its placement in the pit to ensure it remains below the black sensor's tip and provides a reliable ground source.
- General Pump Maintenance: Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for your specific sump pump's maintenance, including checking for debris in the pump intake, ensuring the impeller is clear, and verifying proper discharge line function.
- Weekly Auto-Test: The HC6000-PRO performs a weekly auto-test. Monitor the display for results to ensure continuous proper function.
Troubleshooting
The HC6000-PRO provides various alarms and diagnostic information to help identify and resolve potential issues. Refer to the 'Alarm Conditions' information card included with your unit for detailed explanations of each alarm type.
Common Alarms and Solutions:
- Dirty Sensors: If the display indicates "Dirty Sensors," clean the black and red sensors as described in the Maintenance section.
- Weak Ground: This alarm indicates an insufficient ground connection. Ensure the ground wire (if used) is properly connected to the controller and submerged in the pit below the black sensor's tip. In some plastic pits, an external ground wire may be necessary to ensure proper sensor function.
- Pump Not Detected: Verify that the sump pump is correctly plugged into the HC6000-PRO controller's outlet and that the controller itself is powered.
- High Water: This alarm indicates that the water level has reached a critical point. Check for pump malfunction, power outage, or a clogged discharge line.
Disabling Individual Alarms:
You can temporarily disable or re-enable individual alarms if necessary. To enter the alarm programming mode, press and hold the 'Smart Button' on the front of the controller until you hear three beeps. Pressing the 'Smart Button' will then cycle through the individual alarms. To enable or disable a specific alarm, press the red button on the side of the controller when that alarm is displayed. To exit alarm programming, press and hold the 'Smart Button' until you hear three beeps again.
