  2. Placement: Place the shredder on a flat, stable surface near a power outlet. Ensure there is adequate space around the unit for ventilation.
  3. Install Casters (if not pre-installed): If casters are provided separately, insert them firmly into the designated slots at the bottom of the shredder base.

Operating Instructions

  1. Power On: Locate the power switch, usually on the top or back of the shredder head, and set it to the 'ON' or 'AUTO' position. The shredder is now in standby mode.
  2. Feed Paper: Insert up to 12 sheets of paper straight into the paper feed slot. The shredder will automatically start and stop once the paper has passed through.
  3. Shredding Credit Cards: Insert one credit card at a time into the designated credit card slot (if available). The shredder will automatically process it.
  4. Overload Protection: If too many sheets are inserted, the shredder's automatic reverse function will activate to prevent jamming. Remove some sheets and try again.
  5. Overheat Protection: For continuous shredding, the unit has a 30-minute run time. If used continuously for longer, it may automatically shut off to cool down. Allow it to rest for approximately 30-45 minutes before resuming operation.
  6. Emptying the Waste Bin: When the waste bin is full, the shredder may stop operating. Pull out the waste bin, empty the shredded material, and reinsert it firmly.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your shredder:

  • Oiling the Blades: Regularly oil the shredder blades, especially after emptying the waste bin or after heavy use. Apply shredder oil (not aerosol lubricants) across the paper entry slot while the shredder is running in reverse for a few seconds.
  • Cleaning the Waste Bin: Empty the waste bin regularly to prevent shredded material from backing up and causing jams.
  • Cleaning the Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the shredder with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Always Unplug: Ensure the shredder is unplugged from the power outlet before performing any cleaning or maintenance.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your shredder, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Shredder Does Not Turn On:
    • Check if the power cord is securely plugged into a working outlet.
    • Ensure the waste bin is fully and correctly inserted. The shredder has a safety interlock.
    • Verify the power switch is in the 'ON' or 'AUTO' position.
  • Paper Jam:
    • If the shredder automatically reverses, remove the excess paper.
    • If jammed, switch the shredder to 'REV' (Reverse) to clear the paper. If necessary, gently pull the paper out.
    • If the jam persists, unplug the shredder, carefully remove the shredder head (if detachable), and clear the paper manually using caution.
  • Shredder Stops During Operation (Overheat):
    • The shredder has reached its maximum continuous run time (30 minutes) and has activated its thermal overload protection.
    • Unplug the shredder and allow it to cool down for 30-45 minutes before resuming use.
  • Shredder Runs Slowly or Makes Unusual Noise:
    • The blades may need oiling. Refer to the 'Maintenance' section.
    • Ensure you are not exceeding the maximum sheet capacity.
