5. Setup and Pairing

5.1 Charging the Device

Before first use, fully charge both the HB980 speaker microphone and the K1 adapter. Use the provided dual port USB charging cable.

  • Connect the USB cable to a 5V USB power source (e.g., wall adapter, computer USB port).
  • Connect the micro USB ends to the charging ports on the HB980 microphone and K1 adapter.
  • The indicator light will show charging status (e.g., red while charging, off or blue when fully charged).
  • Charging typically takes 2-3 hours.

5.2 Pairing with Your Radio

The HB980 speaker microphone connects wirelessly to your two-way radio via the K1 adapter. Follow these steps to pair them:

  1. Ensure both the HB980 microphone and K1 adapter are sufficiently charged.
  2. Power On and Enter Pairing Mode for HB980: Long press the red power button on the HB980 microphone until the indicator light flashes blue and red alternately, indicating it's in pairing mode.
  3. Power On and Enter Pairing Mode for K1 Adapter: Long press the red button on the K1 adapter until its indicator light also flashes blue and red alternately.
  4. Place both devices close to each other. They should automatically pair within a few seconds. The indicator lights on both devices will turn solid blue once successfully paired.
  5. Connect K1 Adapter to Radio: Insert the K1 connector into the standard Kenwood 2-Pin port on your compatible two-way radio.
  6. Your HB980 speaker microphone is now ready for use with your radio.

6. Operation

6.1 Basic Radio Communication

  • Receiving: Audio from the radio will be heard through the HB980's speaker.
  • Transmitting (PTT): Press and hold the PTT button on the side of the HB980 microphone to transmit. Release the button to stop transmitting.
  • Volume Adjustment: Use the '+' and '-' buttons on the HB980 to adjust the speaker volume.

6.2 Phone Call Functionality

When connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth (if supported by your radio/adapter setup), the HB980 can also manage phone calls:

  • Answer Call: Press the Phone Call button (top) once.
  • End Call: Press the Phone Call button (top) once during a call.
  • Reject Call: Long press the Phone Call button (top) when an incoming call rings.
  • Redial Last Number: Double-press the Phone Call button (top) when not on a call.

6.3 Music Playback (if applicable)

If connected to a Bluetooth-enabled device that supports music playback:

  • Play/Pause: Press the Phone Call button (top) once.
  • Next Track: Press the '+' button.
  • Previous Track: Press the '-' button.

7. Maintenance and Care

  • Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Water Resistance (IP66): The HB980 is splashproof and rainproof. It can resist gentle water spray and splashes but cannot be partially or fully submerged in water. Avoid exposing the USB charging port to moisture when not in use.
  • Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Care: To prolong battery life, charge the device at least once every six months if not used for a long period. Avoid overcharging or completely draining the battery frequently.
  • Avoid Impact: Do not drop or apply strong shock to the product.

8. Troubleshooting
