2. Safety Information

To ensure safe operation, always adhere to the following safety precautions:

  • Exercise extreme caution when working with voltages above 30V AC RMS, 42V peak, or 60V DC. These voltages pose a shock hazard.

5. Setup

5.1. Battery Installation

  1. Ensure the multimeter is powered off and disconnect all test leads.
  2. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the multimeter.
  3. Unscrew the retaining screw(s) and remove the cover.
  4. Insert the included 9V (6F22) battery, observing the correct polarity (+ and -).
  5. Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw(s).

5.2. Connecting Test Leads

  • Insert the black test lead into the "COM" (common) input jack.
  • For most voltage, resistance, capacitance, frequency, duty cycle, diode, and continuity measurements, insert the red test lead into the "VΩHz" input jack.
  • For current measurements up to 600mA, insert the red test lead into the "mA" input jack.
  • For current measurements up to 20A, insert the red test lead into the "20A" input jack.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Power On/Off

Rotate the function dial from the "OFF" position to any desired measurement function to power on the multimeter. To power off, rotate the dial back to the "OFF" position. The device also features an auto power off function to conserve battery life.

6.2. Function Selection

Rotate the central dial to select the desired measurement function (e.g., V~ for AC Voltage, V- for DC Voltage, Ω for Resistance, etc.). Some positions on the dial may have multiple functions; press the SELECT button to cycle through them.

6.3. AC/DC Voltage Measurement

  1. Set the function dial to V~ (AC Voltage) or V- (DC Voltage).
  2. Connect the black test lead to the "COM" terminal and the red test lead to the "VΩHz" terminal.
  3. Connect the test probes in parallel across the circuit or component to be measured.
  4. Read the voltage value on the display.

6.4. AC/DC Current Measurement

Caution: Never connect the multimeter in parallel with a voltage source when measuring current, as this can damage the device and pose a safety risk.

  1. Set the function dial to A~ (AC Current) or A- (DC Current).
  2. For currents up to 600mA, connect the red test lead to the "mA" terminal. For currents up to 20A, connect the red test lead to the "20A" terminal. The black test lead remains in "COM".
  3. Open the circuit and connect the test probes in series with the load.
  4. Read the current value on the display.

For measuring higher AC/DC currents up to 600A without breaking the circuit, the optional INFURIDER YF-605A non-contact current clamp adapter can be used in conjunction with the YF-770K multimeter.

6.5. Resistance Measurement

  1. Set the function dial to Ω.
  2. Connect the black test lead to "COM" and the red test lead to "VΩHz".
  3. Ensure the circuit is de-energized before measuring resistance.
  4. Connect the test probes across the component.
  5. Read the resistance value on the display.

6.6. Capacitance Measurement

  1. Set the function dial to the capacitance symbol (usually shared with Ω or Hz, use SELECT if needed).
  2. Connect the black test lead to "COM" and the red test lead to "VΩHz".
  3. Ensure the capacitor is fully discharged before measurement to prevent damage to the multimeter.
  4. Connect the test probes across the capacitor terminals.
  5. Read the capacitance value on the display.

6.7. Temperature Measurement

  1. Set the function dial to ℃/℉.
  2. Connect the K-type thermocouple to the appropriate input jacks (usually VΩHz and COM, observing polarity).
  3. Place the thermocouple probe on or near the object whose temperature is to be measured.
  4. Press the SELECT button to switch between Celsius (℃) and Fahrenheit (℉).
  5. Read the temperature value on the display.

6.8. Frequency and Duty Cycle Measurement

  1. Set the function dial to Hz%.
  2. Connect the black test lead to "COM" and the red test lead to "VΩHz".
  3. Connect the test probes across the signal source.
  4. Press the SELECT button to switch between frequency (Hz) and duty cycle (%).
  5. Read the value on the display.

6.9. Diode Test

  1. Set the function dial to the diode symbol (usually shared with continuity, use SELECT if needed).
  2. Connect the black test lead to "COM" and the red test lead to "VΩHz".
  3. Connect the red probe to the anode and the black probe to the cathode of the diode. A forward voltage drop will be displayed.
  4. Reverse the probes. The display should show "OL" (Open Loop) for a good diode.

6.10. Continuity Test

  1. Set the function dial to the continuity symbol (usually shared with diode, use SELECT if needed).
  2. Connect the black test lead to "COM" and the red test lead to "VΩHz".
  3. Connect the test probes across the circuit or component.
  4. If the resistance is below approximately 50Ω, the buzzer will sound, indicating continuity.

6.11. Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) Detection

  1. Set the function dial to NCV.
  2. Move the top part of the multimeter near the wire or outlet to be tested.
  3. If AC voltage is detected, the NCV indicator light will flash, and the buzzer will sound. The frequency of beeps and flashes increases with stronger voltage.

6.12. Engine Analysis (RPM, Pulse Width, Dwell Angle)

The YF-770K can perform basic engine diagnostics. Refer to your vehicle's service manual for specific connection points and expected values.

  1. Set the function dial to RPM, ms-PULSE, or DUTY%.
  2. Connect the test leads according to the specific measurement and your vehicle's instructions (e.g., to the ignition coil primary, injector signal, etc.).
  3. Read the RPM, pulse width, or dwell angle on the display.

6.13. Data Hold, Max/Min, Peak Hold

  • Press the HOLD button to freeze the current display reading. Press again to release.
  • Press the MAX/MIN button to enter Max/Min recording mode. The multimeter will display the maximum or minimum reading detected. Press again to cycle through Max, Min, and exit.
  • Press the PEAK button to capture peak values.

7. Maintenance

7.1. Cleaning

Wipe the case with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Ensure the device is completely dry before use.

7.2. Battery Replacement

When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the 9V battery as described in the "Battery Installation" section (5.1).

7.3. Fuse Replacement

If the current measurement function fails, the fuse may need replacement. Refer to the specifications for the correct fuse type and rating. Fuse replacement should only be performed by qualified personnel.

7.4. Storage

If the multimeter is not used for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent leakage and store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
