Introduction
This GINTOOYUN 9.5mm SATA 2nd SSD HDD Hard Drive Caddy Tray allows you to add a second storage device (SSD or HDD) to your laptop by replacing the internal optical drive (CD/DVD-ROM drive). This upgrade can significantly improve your laptop's operating speed and expand its storage capacity.
The caddy is designed for 2.5-inch SATA-III HDD and SSD hard drives and is compatible with laptop optical drive slots that are 9.5mm thick and use a SATA interface.
Product Overview
The GINTOOYUN 9.5mm SATA 2nd SSD HDD Hard Drive Caddy Tray is constructed from aluminum alloy, offering a lightweight yet durable solution with good heat dissipation and shock resistance. It features an anti-vibration screw design and a hollow bottom for enhanced air circulation.

Compatibility and Requirements
- Supports 2.5-inch SATA HDD/SSD hard drives.
- Compatible with laptop CD/DVD-ROM drive slots that are 9.5mm thick.
- The laptop's optical drive interface must be SATA. IDE interfaces are not supported.
- Supports 2.5-inch mechanical hard drives or solid-state drives with a thickness of less than 8mm.

Setup and Installation
Follow these steps to install your SSD or HDD into the caddy and then into your laptop:
- Prepare the Caddy: Unpack the hard drive caddy and the new SSD/HDD.
- Install the Drive: Load your 2.5-inch SSD or HDD into the caddy. Gently insert the drive into the adapter at a slight angle until the connector is securely locked.
- Secure the Drive: Tighten the bottom screws (M3 screws provided) to firmly fix the SSD/HDD within the caddy. This prevents shaking and vibration.
- Remove Laptop Optical Drive: Power off your laptop and remove the existing optical drive. Consult your laptop's manual for specific instructions on how to safely remove the optical drive.
- Insert the Caddy: Slide the assembled hard drive caddy into the laptop's optical drive bay until it locks into place.
- Optional: Baffle Plate: The caddy includes a universal straight baffle plate. If you prefer, you can remove the baffle from your original optical drive and install it onto the caddy for a more integrated look. Note that some original baffles may not be compatible or easily removable.

Operating Instructions
Once installed, the second hard drive will function as an additional storage device. Your laptop will recognize it as a secondary drive, allowing you to:
- Expand Storage: Use the new drive for storing files, applications, or backups.
- Improve Performance: Install your operating system on an SSD in the primary bay and use the caddy for a larger HDD, or vice-versa, to optimize performance and storage.
- Dual Boot: The caddy supports installing a second operating system on the new drive, enabling dual-boot functionality. You can select which operating system to boot from during startup.
- Dual Channel Switch: The caddy features two channels (left and right) to ensure compatibility with various laptop models. If the drive is not detected initially, try switching between the left and right channels on the side of the bracket.

Maintenance
The GINTOOYUN hard drive caddy requires minimal maintenance. To ensure optimal performance and longevity:
- Keep the laptop's optical drive bay free from dust and debris before installation.
- Ensure all screws are tightened to prevent vibration and secure the hard drive.
- Avoid exposing the caddy or your laptop to extreme temperatures or moisture.
Troubleshooting
- Hard Drive Not Detected:
- Ensure the hard drive is properly seated and connected within the caddy.
- Verify that the caddy is fully inserted into the laptop's optical drive bay.
- Try switching the "Dual Channel Switch" on the side of the caddy. Some laptop models may require a specific channel setting.
- Check your laptop's BIOS/UEFI settings to ensure the SATA port for the optical drive is enabled and configured correctly.
- Confirm that your laptop's optical drive interface is SATA, as IDE interfaces are not supported.
- If it's a new drive, ensure it is initialized and formatted in Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS).
- Slow Performance:
- Ensure the hard drive itself is functioning correctly.
- Check for any loose connections.
- Verify that the laptop's SATA port is operating at its maximum speed (e.g., SATA III).
