5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

The INFURIDER YF-985B requires one 9V battery for operation. Follow these steps to install the battery:

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the handle of the thermometer.
  2. Use the provided small screwdriver to open the battery compartment.
  3. Insert a new 9V battery, ensuring the correct polarity (+ and - terminals match the markings inside the compartment).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw.

The device is now ready for use.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Taking a Measurement

  1. Point the thermometer at the target surface. Ensure the target is within the device's distance-to-spot ratio (16:1).
  2. Press and hold the trigger button. The laser pointers will activate, indicating the measurement area.
  3. The measured temperature will be displayed on the LCD screen instantly.
  4. Release the trigger button to hold the reading on the display.

6.2 Distance-to-Spot Ratio (D:S)

The YF-985B has a D:S ratio of 16:1. This means that at a distance of 16 units, the measurement spot diameter will be 1 unit. For accurate readings, ensure the target object is larger than the spot size at your chosen measurement distance.

Image 6.2: Diagram explaining the 16:1 Distance-to-Spot ratio.

6.3 Mode Selection

Press the 'MODE' button to cycle through different measurement functions:

  • MAX: Displays the maximum temperature recorded during the measurement session.
  • MIN: Displays the minimum temperature recorded during the measurement session.
  • AVG: Displays the average temperature recorded during the measurement session.

6.4 Unit Conversion (°C/°F)

To switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F), press the '°F/UP' button.

6.5 Adjustable Emissivity

Emissivity (ε) is a measure of a material's ability to emit infrared energy. Different materials have different emissivity values. For accurate measurements, adjust the emissivity setting on your thermometer to match the target material. The YF-985B allows adjustment from 0.1 to 1.0.

  • Press the 'MODE' button until 'ε' appears on the display.
  • Use the 'UP' and 'DOWN' buttons to adjust the emissivity value.
  • Refer to common emissivity tables for typical values of various materials.

6.6 High/Low Temperature Alarms

You can set high and low temperature alarm thresholds. If the measured temperature exceeds the high alarm or falls below the low alarm, an audible alert will sound.

  • Consult the detailed instructions in the full user manual for setting specific alarm values.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning the Device

To ensure accurate readings and prolong the life of your thermometer, keep it clean:

  • Lens Cleaning: The sensor lens is the most delicate part. Clean it with a soft, damp cloth or cotton swab. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Casing Cleaning: Wipe the device casing with a damp cloth and mild soap if necessary. Do not immerse the device in water.

7.2 Storage

When not in use, store the thermometer in its carrying case in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove the battery if storing for extended periods to prevent leakage.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your INFURIDER YF-985B, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Display/Device Not Turning On:
    • Check if the 9V battery is installed correctly with the right polarity.
    • Replace the battery with a new one if it is depleted.
  • Inaccurate Readings:
    • Ensure the lens is clean and free from dust or debris.
    • Verify that the emissivity setting matches the target material.
    • Confirm that the measurement distance is appropriate for the target size (16:1 D:S ratio).
    • Avoid measuring through glass or other transparent surfaces, as infrared thermometers measure the surface temperature of the glass itself.
  • Laser Not Working:
    • Check if the laser function is enabled (refer to the full manual for specific button presses).
    • Ensure the battery has sufficient power.
