Neoteck Digital Stylus Force Gauge User Manual

Model: NTKHG472

1. Introduction

The Neoteck Digital Stylus Force Gauge is a high-precision instrument designed for accurately measuring the tracking force of your turntable's phono cartridge. Proper stylus force is crucial for optimal audio playback, minimizing record wear, and extending the lifespan of your stylus and vinyl records. This device is non-magnetic, ensuring reliable readings without magnetic field interference.

An incorrect stylus force can lead to various issues:

  • Too high: Accelerates wear on both the stylus and your records.
  • Too low: Can cause tracking errors, skipping, and poor audio performance.

This manual provides detailed instructions for setting up, operating, and maintaining your Neoteck Digital Stylus Force Gauge to ensure accurate measurements and optimal performance.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Power On/Off:
    • Press the Power button (usually marked with a power symbol) to turn the device on.
    • Press and hold the Power button to turn it off. The device will also automatically shut off after 1 minute of inactivity.
  2. Unit Selection:
    • Press the Mode (M) button to cycle through available weight units (g, oz, ct, ozt, dwt, gn, TL).
    • The selected unit will be displayed on the LCD screen.
  3. Tare Function (Zeroing):
    • Before measuring, ensure the gauge is on a stable, level surface and press the Tare (T) button to zero the display. This removes the weight of any accessories placed on the platform before measurement.
  4. Measuring Stylus Force:
    • With the gauge powered on and zeroed, carefully lower your turntable's tonearm so that the stylus rests gently on the center of the gauge's measurement platform.
    • Read the displayed weight. This is your current stylus tracking force.
    • Adjust your tonearm's counterweight or anti-skate settings as needed to achieve the recommended tracking force for your cartridge. Refer to your cartridge manufacturer's specifications for the ideal range.
    • Lift the tonearm, make adjustments, and re-measure until the desired force is achieved.

6. Unit Conversion

The device supports various weight units. You can switch between them using the Mode (M) button. The available units are:

  • g (grams)
  • oz (ounces)
  • ct (carats)
  • ozt (troy ounces)
  • dwt (pennyweights)
  • gn (grains)
  • TL (Tael)

You can also configure the device to hide units you rarely use, simplifying the selection process.

7. Calibration

To ensure the highest accuracy, it is recommended to calibrate the stylus force gauge periodically or if you suspect inaccurate readings. A 20g calibration weight is included for this purpose.

  1. Place the gauge on a stable, level surface.
  2. Turn on the gauge and wait for it to stabilize.
  3. Press the Tare (T) button to zero the display.
  4. Carefully place the 20g calibration weight onto the center of the measurement platform.
  5. The display should read "20.000g". If it does not, refer to the full user manual for detailed calibration steps, which may involve a specific button sequence.
  6. Remove the calibration weight once calibration is complete.

8. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the gauge in its protective case when not in use to prevent dust and damage. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery: If the device will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent leakage. Replace the battery when the low battery alarm is indicated on the display.
