Setup and Initial Charging

Proper placement and initial charging are crucial for optimal performance of your solar lantern.

1. Selecting a Location

  • Choose a location that receives full, direct sunlight for at least 8 hours daily.
  • Avoid shaded areas, as this will prevent the battery from fully charging and reduce nighttime illumination.
  • Do not place the lantern near other nighttime light sources (e.g., porch lights, streetlights), as this may prevent the solar light from activating automatically.
  • For accent lighting, solar lights operate independently but are more effective when used in groups. For best results, space lanterns less than ten feet apart.

2. Initial Use and Charging

  1. Before first use, ensure the lantern charges for at least 6 hours in direct sunlight.
  2. Locate the switch on the bottom of the solar panel. Set it to the "ON" position for automatic operation (light turns on at dusk, off at daylight). The "OFF" position is for shipment or storage.

Operation

Once properly set up and charged, your solar lantern will operate automatically.

Automatic Functionality

  • The lantern is designed to automatically turn on at dusk and turn off at daylight, provided the switch is in the "ON" position and the battery is sufficiently charged.
  • The solar panel converts sunlight into electricity, which is stored in the rechargeable battery during the day.
  • Expect up to 8 hours of illumination at night on a full charge.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your solar lantern.

1. Battery Replacement

The rechargeable battery typically needs replacement every 1 to 2 years.

  1. Turn the switch to the "OFF" position.
  2. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws located underneath the solar panel.
  3. Carefully remove the back cover.
  4. Replace the existing battery with a new rechargeable battery of the same size and specifications (AA 300mAh 1.2V).
  5. Re-position the back cover and secure it with the two screws.

2. Winter Care Tips

  • Keep the solar panel clean from snow and debris to ensure efficient battery recharging.
  • If heavy snowfall is expected, turn the switch to the "OFF" position.
  • After snow melts, charge the battery for 6 hours in full direct sunlight with the switch in the "OFF" position to restore full capacity. Then, switch it back to "ON".
